Anwar condemns critics of govt's efforts in treating injured Palestinians

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly rebuked critics of Putrajaya’s decision to provide medical treatment for injured Palestinians in Malaysia.   Speaking at the Malaysia Mosque for Al-Aqsa and Palestine (MM4AP) Conference on Sunday (Aug 25), Anwar denounced the criticism of the government's humanitarian efforts, calling it "barbaric and uncivilised." 00:25from Gaza, Palestine, to be treated here, and other efforts,

00:34as much as we can, we continue with our wisdom.

00:44even though there are additional efforts to give understanding to non-Muslims,

00:50there are voices from small groups of people and non-Muslims.

00:58Last night, I was in Kuching, Sarawak,

01:03but I didn't have the chance to answer the questions from the SUGMA,

01:08but actually I was called to answer a question from someone,

01:14who is not from the government,

01:19who said, if you want to bring Palestine, don't touch the land of Sarawak.

01:25That is the most dangerous view.

01:29In short, it is a tragedy.

01:35No one knows the meaning of humanity.

01:40Is he the son of Africa?

01:47South Africa during the apartheid?

01:51Rwanda among the nations?

01:55That is what we call Palestine.

01:59Is he the son of China?

02:03Is he the son of the oppressed?

02:06Or is he the son of a poor Malay?

02:09Or is he the son of an Indian woman who fell off a cliff 2-3 days ago?

02:13All of that touches our hearts and feelings.

02:17So, let's try to solve it.

02:20Where is this humanity?

02:23So that the sentiment of the people or the region

02:29causes this attitude.

02:32This kind of person is not worthy to be a citizen

02:37who understands God.

02:45In short, this is a small voice.

02:49So, let's not allow it to grow.

02:55Because if we allow it to grow,

02:57no matter how much we understand,

03:01it will be too much.

03:03Let's not let it grow.

03:42who do not understand the meaning of humanity and justice.

03:50I'm here to leave this country

03:55and I say,

03:57every suffering of every single citizen in this country,

04:01Muslim or Christian or Hindu or Buddhist

04:06from Perlis or from Sarawak

04:08is my concern as a human being.

04:13That's why I made reference to this young mother,

04:19Indian lady who fell down

04:22and still unable to be found.

04:25We express our sympathy.

04:27We take all the troubles.

04:29And this morning I instructed the municipality

04:34to find out from the family,

04:40express our condolences.

04:42That's what Islam is all about.

04:45It's about compassion.

04:47About Ehsan.

04:48About Rahmat.

04:50And we must maintain as Muslims

04:52this view that we are here as Muslims

04:55and Muslims are in the majority.

04:57We will struggle and fight and defend the rights of Muslims

05:00but we will defend the rights of every single citizen of this country.
