Count Dracula was invented by the author Bram Stoker in 1897. He based it on the famous prince, Vlad Tepes (the impaler). Many people assume Stoker's tale was just 100% fiction. However, if you examine the authentic folklore of his native land, Wallachia (in Romania), it indicates that he was very likely considered to be a vampire hundreds of years before Stoker immortalized him. Stoker did get a few things wrong, of course, but true history seems to indicate he got most things right. We take a closer look.
