00:00A new book that contains the story of an important part of our history

00:04was launched by an author and a member of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency, UNICA.

00:09Let's take a look at it.

00:13The events of our past are becoming a part of our history.

00:20Many parts of our history remain in our minds

00:24and many of them are just a part of the memories of the past.

00:28One of them is the incident of the MV Caragatan Arms Landing

00:32at Digoyo Point in Isabela in 1972.

00:35It was a ship that contained thousands of weapons

00:39that were shipped to the Philippines

00:41for the members of the Communist Party of the Philippines' New People's Army.

00:45Many of us have forgotten or haven't been able to catch this event.

00:50That's why it was told in a book

00:52written by a journalist and author named Moya Molina

00:56and launched by the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency.

01:01There's this calling that if you know the history,

01:04especially soldiers or police,

01:08that I think can help our fellow Filipinos,

01:13especially historians,

01:15I will write it down.

01:18The campaign of our government against the insurgency is intense.

01:30The Director General of NICA was one of the soldiers

01:33who was part of the success in stopping the insurgent groups from taking these weapons.

01:39I was the commander.

01:42I was the second lieutenant of the scout ranger.

01:45This is the class 14, the pioneer class.

01:48We were sent there.

01:50We were replaced by another battalion

01:53to pave the way for the landing of the marines.

01:58When we returned, we were the ones who were recovered.

02:01Four were killed.

02:03When we arrived in the area,

02:05we received requests for logistics and recovered over 1,000.

02:10When we got the weapons,

02:12we requested for support.

02:14They were the ones who got the weapons.

02:16They were with the provincial commander.

02:18It is said that the MV Caragatan Arms Landing

02:21was connected to the Plaza Miranda bombing and Martial Law

02:24during the time of former President Ferdinand Marcos Sr.

02:28It is said that it was an arms landing to justify Martial Law.

02:34It was not like that because there was really a firefight.

02:37And the weapons were recovered from China.

02:41The so-called part of our history

02:44was not fully known by the public and our countrymen.

02:48But it was a big part of the success of our country.

02:52The significance of the Caragatan Arms Landing was that

02:55there were about 3,000 M14.

02:58Complete with all the ammunitions.

03:00It could have been a turning point

03:02if those weapons reached the armed groups in the NPA.

03:06If not for the timely intervention

03:09and we were able to get the weapons,

03:11it could have been used to topple a government.

03:13It was really meant to topple the government of Marcos, right?

03:18So, if this happened, they were ready to take over

03:21the Plaza Miranda bombing.

03:22Then, why Martial Law?

03:25Because at that time, it was very unruly

03:26to save the democracy that we are all enjoying.

03:29I really established in the book

03:32what will happen when the present generation reads it.

03:36They will learn from it.

03:39Through the establishment of this story,

03:42we can see the sacrifice of our countrymen,

03:46police and soldiers

03:47to maintain peace

03:50and to take care of ourselves.
