More from the North West Rich List, the best pub in Manchester, a six million
00:05
investment in grassroots motorsport in Bicester and a new chief executive at
00:09
Pure Gym all come up in today's business briefing.
00:16
Good morning, I'm Daniel Zambartas and I'm Mary Thomas. How are you doing today
00:21
Mary? Very good, how are you? I'm good thank you. So I'm gonna kick things off
00:24
for us today. So Pure Gym, I will say that we did our first by-the-side
00:28
football at Insider last night and it's fair to say quite a few of us might be
00:32
signing up to go to the gym given that we were panting halfway through, we were
00:36
about to pass out. Anyway, so the news is that they have unveiled their new chief
00:40
executive, Clive Chesser, who was chief executive at Punch Pubs and he's also
00:45
held roles at Green King and Haagen-Dazs. He's gonna become the chief executive of
00:49
Pure Gym. So we'll see that those are quite different industries to the gym
00:54
but he'll be using that retail experience to drive growth. They've
00:57
already got 2 million members and 600 gyms globally and that appointment means
01:02
that Humphrey Cobalt, who has been chief executive there for 10 years, he'll
01:06
become chair of the gym operator. And so Chris Galashan, who's partner of
01:10
Leonard Green, the majority equity owners of Pure Gym, he said that Cobalt was one
01:16
of the main reasons behind their investment in 2017. So I think anyone
01:20
involved with Pure Gym will be happy that he's there to stay. You mentioned
01:24
he's come from the pub world, so from one pub to another. We revealed today
01:28
some of the best-loved pubs in Greater Manchester and among them is one that
01:34
was saved from closure back in 2017 so it's now made it as to one of the best
01:37
pubs in the region. It's called the Northumberland Arms or affectionately
01:41
known as The Thumb. It's in Markle Bridge which is just around the corner from me
01:44
but I haven't been so I'm thinking I should I should pay a visit now that
01:48
it's so close to me. Oh definitely. Yeah well maybe a pub crawl after the
01:51
five-a-side. That might be an idea actually next week. The other big
01:56
story from today is in the North West is the rich list that we've been trailing
02:00
this for a couple of weeks now. We've list like the the youngest and richest
02:05
in tech but tomorrow or rather today we reveal the final list of the 50 richest
02:11
people in the North West, the self-made self-made millionaires and billionaires.
02:16
Who do you think is at the top? It's definitely not me. At the top is Tom
02:22
Morris and his family. Now Tom Morris well known for home bargains but in
02:26
fact the list is dominated by families so we've got lots of siblings on there
02:31
so at number two and at number three we've got the Issa brothers so Mosson
02:34
at number two and Zuberissa at number three. We know them from Asda and from
02:38
Eurogarages. Then at number four more siblings Fred and Peter Doan. Again Fred
02:44
is the Fred in Betfred. And at number five it's Simon, Bobby and Robin Aurora
02:51
from B&M Bargains. So yeah they're dominating the list of families.
02:56
Good for them. Great to see. What else have you seen this morning? I've also seen news from
03:01
Vista Motion which is the future mobility estate in the heart of the
03:04
motorsport valley in Oxfordshire. So they've launched a partnership with Team
03:09
Sport, an indoor karting company with 40 centres across the UK. They've agreed to
03:13
launch a six million investment into grassroots motorsport and a new indoor
03:18
electric go-karting centre. A two-level track will be built at Vista Motion in
03:23
the Hangar 137 building should the plans go ahead they've been submitted to
03:27
Chowell District Council. So four million of that investment will go towards
03:31
maintaining the external fabric of the building and two million will go
03:34
towards the track itself. That's expected to boost grassroots and women's talent
03:39
in motorsports. So it's not only a physical investment in the track itself
03:43
it's also an investment into the wider sport. So you might also remember in May
03:48
plans were approved for YASA or YSA, their new head office at Vista Motion
03:53
and that new racetrack will be built on the site adjacent. Wow and then it's not
04:00
quite go-karting but our event season is also kicking off big time with the sort
04:05
of it's a back-to-school kind of feeling. So in September event season kicks off
04:09
and one of the first events that we're doing is in the Northwest. It's on the
04:12
17th of September and it's our Shaping Property lunch. So first of all we're
04:18
looking at public-private partnerships and today we announced that Eamon Boylan
04:21
who's coming out of retirement and back into Manchester City Council will be
04:25
among our speakers. So Eamon will be giving a keynote address about the power
04:29
of partnerships. He'll be joined at the event by Deborah McLaughlin, she's the
04:34
former Regeneration Commissioner at Liverpool City Council. Also Stephen
04:38
Wild from Peel and Wes Erlen who's Managing Director of Urban Regeneration
04:43
at Legal and General Capital. So they're going to be talking about what's the
04:46
future of public-private partnerships and how maybe do we work and between the
04:52
public and the private sector under the new Labour government as well. So there's
04:55
loads of events coming up so you can find about find out about those on our
04:59
website insidethemedia.com where you can also read our Northwest Rich List and
05:04
subscribe to the magazines. But that's all the time we've got for today so
05:08
great thanks for that. Yeah very good see you soon.
