Well, I've received several complaints about long queues and customer wait times at Wallsend
00:07
Post Office.
00:09
Residents say they're waiting over half an hour to be served and some have even been
00:12
turned away because Australia Post staff do not have time or capacity to respond to increased
00:18
customer needs.
00:20
One resident told me that she often leaves work early if she wants to be served at Wallsend
00:23
Post Office before 5pm.
00:26
Another noted that it's very common for there to be only three employees working during
00:30
peak times and they seem to be overwhelmed by the amount of foot traffic coming into
00:34
the store.
00:36
Wallsend Post Office serves a large region, including the rapidly growing suburbs of Maryland,
00:41
Fletcher and Minmai.
00:43
Postal services are essential services, providing access to vital services, connecting people
00:49
and communities right across the country and the globe.
00:53
This lack of resourcing is causing considerable stress to people of all ages in my community
00:59
and I really appreciate the time and effort taken by those who have contacted my office
01:03
to share their concerns and personal experiences with me.
01:08
I stand with the people of Wallsend and their calls for a properly resourced post office
01:14
that meets customer and community needs, needs not just now but into the future.
01:20
I call on Australia Post to invest in their workforce and postal services in Wallsend.
01:27
They deserve nothing less.
