00:00Alright, hi people, Chase here. I'm here to do a group unboxing for you guys today of
00:08all the Dragon Ball, well, the first 13 Dragon Ball Z movies and the two TV specials on Blu-ray.
00:17So yeah. A while ago, I did do an unboxing just for the TV specials, but I thought to
00:23do all of these at once rather than individually. It doesn't make sense. And then I did a whole
00:33video for all of the steelbooks from, or for the DVDs, which I'm really surprised that
00:40Funimation never released these in steelbooks. I don't understand why, but yeah. They released
00:47the DVDs in steelbooks, but they didn't release these. And on top of that, they could have
00:52easily put the movies on one disc for the DVDs, but they didn't. They have them as their
01:03own separate discs. But for the Blu-rays, they have everything on one disc. I don't
01:10understand why. Well, everything that's in the individual packages. So yeah. Then on
01:15top of that, for the DVDs, they repackaged those into multipacks after putting the steelbooks
01:22out of print. But for these, they have yet to put these in a collection set. No idea.
01:31And we'll see if Crunchyroll, like, does that, because I'm imagining they might because they've
01:36been rebranding a bunch of older Funimation releases as Crunchyroll releases and then
01:43release them in new packaging and everything. So yeah. But yeah. So yeah. So there we go
01:53with the start with the History of Trunks and Barlock, Father of Goku double feature
02:00Blu-ray. So yeah. And just let me show these real quick. So in regards to the steelbooks,
02:16just to compare these real quick. As you can see, the DVD case is slightly bigger than
02:22the Blu-ray. The picture on the front is exactly the same, just a little bit bigger. And yeah,
02:30and it's weird because Trunks is oddly framed on the Blu-ray versus the DVD or the steelbook.
02:38But otherwise, it is basically exactly the same. You can make out stuff a little bit better on the
02:42Blu-ray. And then on top of that, there's like more picture on the sides for the Blu-ray. It's
02:48really odd. But yeah. In terms of the framing for these, but yeah. But yeah. So Dragon Ball Z,
02:58History of Trunks, Barlock, Father of Goku double feature and all that. Then the back is a description
03:04of the two movies. It says remastered or specials remastered in high def and digitally restored
03:11widescreen transfer from the original Japanese film. And this was strapped with the original
03:15Japanese music. You get some artwork of Trunks and then screenshots from the specials. Main
03:22feature video is 1080p HD 16x9. That is not supposed to be for these specials. These are
03:28TV specials. These are not movies. They're just double length episodes of the show. So these
03:35should be in 4x3. I really don't know. Even Tellway doesn't put these in 16x9 because again,
03:42they're TV specials. They're TV episodes. They're supposed to be in 4x3. But granted, this was at
03:49the time part for the course with Funimation where they kept shittily remastering Dragon Ball Z
03:54and then like putting the episodes in the widescreen for some reason. But yeah. I'm glad
04:02that that's finally done with from Funimation and I hope that if Crunchyroll ever tries to do
04:09another remaster, it's either done in collaboration with another company or if they do it themselves,
04:15a company that knows what they're doing, or if they do it themselves,
04:21that they don't have as shitty a remaster as Funimation kept doing. But yeah. Funimation did
04:28four remasters with the Orange Bricks, the Level Sets, 2013 to 2014 Blu-rays, and then the 2019
04:39Blu-rays. Only the Level Sets were really that good. So yeah. Audio, W2HD, English 2.1 with
04:49Japanese music, English 2.0 with US music, original Japanese. And I really, really wish that they
04:55would redub these specials as well with better scripts and better like, for the most part,
05:00better voice acting because scripts for these were not that good. They were still in the era
05:06of dubbing for Funimation when they were still dubbing, I believe they were still dubbing the
05:11show at this point, and yeah, no. They changed a bunch of things, including character personalities,
05:17the acting could have been better in places, and yeah. But yeah, I really wish that we would get
05:24better dubs for these specials at the very least to go along with the newer dubs of Dragon Ball
05:30Medium. But yeah, I have subtitles in English, 96 minutes, 2PGE rated A, or region A, and all that.
05:43Here we go, got the one disc with both the specials, and then you got the inside artwork,
05:51which this is from Dead Zone. This isn't even from like, either of these specials,
05:56this is from Dead Zone. That's weird. Then you got the insert thing, um,
06:05with the one star Dragon Ball on it, that's basically like it is in the still works as well,
06:09with the Shenron, the one star Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z movies.
06:14On the inside you got the original DVD covers that Funimation released in the
06:18original release dates, and then the about the transfer thing. So yeah.
06:27Then we have Dead Zone in the World's Strongest, and everything, you got the cover,
06:35and yeah. Interestingly, we put, uh, him right there, rather than Dr. Wheelo, but yeah.
06:46And the spine, and the back.
06:51I decided to buy these because they were for sale, or they were on a sale on Amazon.
06:56So I thought, why not? You know, basically the same setup as the previous one, although
07:02for the movies they were animated to be shown in widescreen in theaters, so it's fine that
07:07they're in widescreen. I know some, like, purists want the 4x3 versions, but this is honestly fine.
07:16And the inside, got the disc again. I think that that was a screw-up, what they did.
07:24Um, for History of Trunks and Bartoff, Father of Goku. You got the thing,
07:33the DVD covers. These are the originals from when they originally released
07:38the films with the, uh, I think the, what, the Pioneer releases with, um,
07:44the redubs, but yeah. And then you got the transfer.
07:52So yeah, let me see.
08:01Oh yeah, so the, I think the Steelbooks have the same, or were supposed to be the same insides.
08:07For the first one, they just have a shot of Bardock and his team members from
08:12the Bardock special, so yeah, Fonamation screwed up in regards to the Blu-ray.
08:24Just, uh, yep.
08:29Because I couldn't remember, I just checked.
08:32Yep.
08:34Because I couldn't remember, I just checked.
08:38The Steelbook for the first two movies has the right insert, or inside artwork.
08:50Ah, Fonamation.
08:52Yeah, so, they got Tree of Might and Lord Slug.
09:10Here we go with the Blu-ray disc and everything.
09:15This.
09:22So yeah, and then on the inside you got Lord Slug and his minions, so yeah.
09:35Here we go for the two cooler movies.
09:37And the disc, no real, um, that's just, this is a screenshot from the movie I believe.
09:54No representation of the first cooler movie outside of this one screenshot for some reason.
10:03Maybe this one? This just doesn't make any sense to me.
10:07Here we go for Super Android 13 and Bojack Unbound. They went out of order because there
10:12were three Broly films and they put all three of those together, which to me makes sense.
10:16This is really weird that they use a shot of Super Vegeta from the show.
10:22This is a shot of Super Vegeta, like, I think it's redrawn,
10:26um, so it's like higher quality and more crisp and everything.
10:29But, um, this is not from either Super Android 13 or Bojack Unbound.
10:35Um, because I believe Android 13 was made before Vegeta went Super Vegeta in the manga and show.
10:42Bojack Unbound came out after, but I don't believe he goes that in that movie either.
10:49But yeah, in fact, I don't actually, I don't even think he, does he show up in Bojack?
10:54I think it's just shown he's like watching the event on TV, but I don't think there's any,
11:02I don't think he shows up that much in that movie.
11:07So yeah, that's just odd that they put Vegeta on the cover here. You'd think that they would put
11:11Gohan. That's really odd. So the back.
11:23Let's see, we got the disc.
11:29Oh yeah, that's a good shot of Trunks to use for the inside artwork.
11:33This.
11:45And then we have the Broly trilogy, the original version of Broly from before Super Broly was made.
11:52Knocking these firmly out of canon, though you can't really place
11:55most of these movies in the timeline and have them work out.
11:58So yeah.
12:06The only shot from Bio Broly that they have is just Broly covered in the goo.
12:13Interesting, there's no inside thing here. I guess this was put out after.
12:21Broly there.
12:28And then we have the last two Dragon Ball Z movies,
12:33Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon, at least from the original batch, the original like 13.
12:40So yeah, and this is a different, these are different remasters from what Toei did in 2018,
13:08I believe it was. But yeah, Funimation got film reels from Toei and remastered these themselves.
13:18They were like second or third generation ones like the show. Difference is though,
13:21because these were, I think on 35 millimeter film, they did not have as many problems
13:28in regards to any like, like loss of quality or anything like the show did.
13:36And then on top of that, they didn't go into it much in regards to the DVNR and the color
13:44correction, whatever. So yeah, like they did with the show. So these movies aren't as badly
13:52remastered, not even remotely as badly remastered as Dragon Ball Z has continually been outside of
13:57the level sets. So yeah, they're probably comparable to the level sets as well.
14:03So yeah, so I do not recommend any of Funimation's Dragon Ball Z releases outside of the Dragon
14:09Boxes. If they finished them, I would recommend the level sets, but you know, there's only two
14:13of them. They canceled the next two, then they just didn't do anymore. So, or they didn't even
14:18announce anymore. So yeah. But yeah, hopefully in the future Crunchyroll, I'm hoping that they'll
14:28license the remasters done by Tellway back in 2018 for the first 17 Dragon Ball movies,
14:36the four Dragon Ball movies, and then 13 Dragon Ball Z movies. Then re-release them over here
14:42in the States with those remasters because they're from the first gen film, they have better quality
14:47and everything. And yeah, and they could just release like a compilation or two compilations
14:52of both. Especially since the second Dragon Ball movie for Funimation's released for some reason,
14:57not only are those four movies not on Blu-ray for some reason, I don't understand why,
15:02but the second movie also has framerate problems with framers cut in half for no reason. So
15:09yeah, that'd fix that. But yeah, so hopefully in the future we will get those if Crunchyroll is
15:15looking for options. There you go. But yeah, so if you're looking to get these movies,
15:22these aren't bad releases. Outside of the two TV specials, that is gonna really depend on what
15:29you want to do. It's funny because they also remastered the two TV specials, I believe back
15:33in 2019 or so, and those haven't been released anywhere outside of Japan and Germany for some
15:40reason. Germany licensed those masters and put out a Blu-ray for them. But yeah, that's just
15:47really odd to me. But yeah. So yeah, so not much else to say. So,
15:54link's in the description, I'll make sure to subscribe if you want, and I'll see you guys in the next one.
