French actor Alain Delon, who melted the hearts of millions of film fans whether playing a murderer, hoodlum or hitman in his postwar heyday, has died, reported the French media on Sunday (Aug 18). He was 88.

00:06away at the age of 88, at his home in Douchy, France, on Sunday.
00:12Delon had struggled with poor health since suffering a stroke in 2019.
00:16With striking blue eyes, Delon was sometimes referred to as the Frank Sinatra of France,
00:23a comparison that Delon disliked.
00:26Delon shot to fame in two of Italian director Lucino Visconti's films, namely Rocco and
00:32His Brothers in 1960 and The Leopard in 1963.
00:38Delon then starred in films including Any Number Can Win and The Godson, that became
00:43a major hit in the 60s.
00:45Delon became a superstar in France and was idolised in Japan, but he never made it as
00:51big in Hollywood, despite performing in the American spy film Scorpio in 1973.
00:58Born in Seau, not far from Paris on November 8th in 1935, Delon was put in foster care
01:04at the age of four after his parents divorced.
01:07He ran away from home at least once and was expelled several times from boarding schools
01:12before joining the Marines at 17.
01:16After returning to France in the 50s, he worked in food markets and cafes before being
01:20scouted in the Cannes Film Festival.
01:23He made his film debut in 1957 in Send a Woman When the Devil Fails.
