00:00By now, we've all seen Australian breakdancer Rachel Gunn's performance at the 2024 Paris
00:06Olympics.
00:07The dancer, who goes by her B-girl name Regan, went viral earlier this month after leaving
00:13Olympic spectators amused but also confused by her unconventional dance moves.
00:19With a 36-year-old ultimately losing all three of her round-robin battles by a combined score
00:25of 54-0, the world is now left wondering how Regan made Australia's Olympic team in the
00:31first place.
00:32The most popular theory taking over the internet so far is that the university lecturer's
00:37husband had something to do with it.
00:40So let's dive down the rabbit hole to see if Regan's husband is really to thank for
00:44her free trip to Paris.
00:46The wild theory first gained traction on Reddit after people pointed out that since there's
00:51no world-governing body for breaking, the International Olympic Committee relied on
00:56the World Dance Sport Federation affiliate DanceSport Australia to get a breaking team
01:00together for the Paris Games.
01:03DanceSport Australia then contacted Rachel, who wrote her PhD thesis on breaking, for
01:09help in finding dancers for the team.
01:12It was then believed that Regan got the organization OzBreaking involved.
01:16According to its website, OzBreaking's purpose is, quote, to help nourish and support the
01:21growth of the Australian breaking and hip-hop community.
01:25It was rumored that Rachel and her husband Samuel Free were in fact the founders of OzBreaking,
01:30so many were left suspicious when she was chosen to be the lone female break dancer
01:35for her country's Olympic team, and Samuel the coach.
01:38However, as plausible as this theory might sound, it was later proven false, with journalist
01:44Charles Arthur taking to X August 12th to set the record straight, writing,
01:49Shocking story.
01:51Also happens not to be true.
01:53Neither Gunn nor her husband Samuel Free is a founder of OzBreak, nor are they on its
01:58board.
02:00Not sure quite how people find these claims that don't stand up to a quick search.
02:05So while this conspiracy may have been debunked, the internet will continue to wonder just
02:09how Regan became an Olympic-worthy break dancer.
