ElevenLabs, an AI startup, has signed deals with the estates of several Hollywood icons, including Burt Reynolds, Judy Garland, James Dean, and Laurence Olivier, to create "voice clones" of the actors using only 30 minutes of audio. The voice clones can be used by ElevenLabs to narrate articles, books, and other text within their reading app. Users can have articles narrated by the Hollywood icons, but the voices are unavailable for content outside the app. Concerns remain around unauthorized AI impersonation and lost voice work for actors.
