Anti-racism protesters take to UK streets to oppose far right
Thousands of anti-racism demonstrators took to the streets around the UK on 7 August to oppose days of far-right violence that has placed police on high alert and resulted in hundreds of arrests. In cities around the country, including London and Birmingham, demonstrations were organised near migrant support centres after lists of potential locations were shared on social media by right-wing activist groups.

00:31It's so disconnected, isn't it?
00:35But you know that he thinks the same as we do,
00:38so he hasn't lost it.
00:40I just think it's really important to show that, yes,
00:42there may be some right-wing people around,
00:44but actually this community is really united.
00:46They really believe in supporting refugees,
00:49in looking after vulnerable people,
00:51and this is the loveliest community I've ever lived in.
00:53I've been here for 20 years.
00:56I think that they have seen that Walthamstow is a community
00:59that acts together.
01:02It's a very, very welcoming community.
01:05Obviously, we absolutely welcome refugees,
01:07we welcome migrants.
01:08I'm a civil partner to one,
01:10and I think the far right have probably seen
01:13that they shouldn't try.
01:16Thank you!

01:34So today we were just at a protest outside a refugee centre
01:40because there was supposed to be a demonstration by the EDL,
01:45and they were going to attack this centre
01:48based on the fact that it's an immigration centre.
01:50And so the community came out today to help protect the refugees
01:55and let them know that they're welcome
01:57and that we wouldn't allow these fascist thugs to attack them.
02:02Thank you!

02:18This is Birmingham.
02:19It's a proud city, black, white, and brown.
02:23All sorts of religions, all sorts of nations.
02:26And it's times like this where we all stand together,
02:30and we stand against racism, Islamophobia.
02:35We stand against that as one.
02:38Thank you!
02:41But we have to be clear,
02:43I'm in Robinson, no one has to turn to that.
02:46An absolute beacon that says to people in place.
02:51And what we've had is, rather than our rulers saying,
02:54blame the person with the yacht.
