The Umbrella Academy cast weigh in on Five, Lila and Diego's surprise love triangle

Aidan Gallagher, David Castañeda, and Ritu Arya speak to Yahoo UK about the complicated romantic plot for Five, Lila and Diego in season 4.

00:00Diego and Laila's marriage is really put through the test this season,

00:03which I was kind of sad to see because I love them both.

00:05But I wondered, you know, what was that like for you to kind of play this season?

00:10Were you expecting that kind of thing to happen this time around?

00:13I mean, Steve had sort of told me that there was going to be a little bit

00:16of a triangle dosage between Five and Diego.

00:19And yeah, I mean, playing with Ritu is always lovely,

00:25you know, being able to, because she's always open of wherever I want to go,

00:31she goes wherever she wants to go, I go.

00:33And there's so there's a comfort level of taking it to certain spaces that

00:37sometimes with other actors, you might have to ask or you might have to sort of

00:41get to know them a little bit more.

00:43And that's what makes it really fun.

00:46And so I can sort of set myself up to be the punch, the punch line of a joke with

00:50her and but also allow to really go there and on these emotional moments.

00:56And yeah, and I thought it was kind of charming to see, you know, Aiden step

01:00into this sort of romantic lead, you know, as he's coming up to ease of age.

01:05And obviously, you know, when we got when we first got to work with him, I

01:09remember he was 14 when he was making that peanut butter sandwich, you know,

01:12in the in the kitchen, you know, and he was such a kid.

01:14And I still remember that day, you know, when he was we were doing that scene.

01:18So I don't I don't I forget how young he looked until I randomly see some clips

01:24from season one. Yeah.

01:25Wow. He was a baby.

01:27He was a child. Yeah.

01:28And now he's a dog.

01:30You know, you're not expecting it at first, but then it's sort of I view it

01:35through the analogy of like magnets, like Lila and five very much are the same

01:39thing and they sort of repel each other because of that.

01:41They're very they're sort of like a competitive nature.

01:46But then given the right sort of context, it flips and it makes a lot of sense.

01:53But, you know, that's a credit to everyone working on the show and also this one

01:56over here that it turned out well.
