00:00Did you know the USA and Russia are actually super close, only 2 miles apart?

00:05And sometimes they're even connected.

00:07So, what's the deal?

00:08Well, there's this Bering Strait that separates the two countries.

00:12Look closer, and you'll see two tiny islands, just 2.4 miles apart.

00:17These little guys split the mainland of the US and Russia.

00:20One island, called Little Diomede, is part of the USA.

00:24It's home to a small town called Diomede, with just 82 people.

00:28The other island, Big Diomede, belongs to Russia,

00:31but it's deserted and only military personnel are present.

00:34So, Diomede is the closest American town to Russia,

00:38separated by only 2 miles of water.

00:41But in winter, that water freezes,

00:43creating an ice bridge between the two countries.

00:46You could actually walk across the border.

00:48There's an international date line between the islands.

00:50They're 21 hours apart.

00:52So, if you cross from the US side, you're literally travelling into the future.
