Pufferfish Asks Diver For Help

This pufferfish was in so much pain, he swam up to a diver for help. We spoke with Shane who risked his life to save the pufferfish and got the best thank you when he was finally free!

00:00Those teeth are freaking sharp and strong so I don't want to end up with my finger in his mouth

00:04because that could be the last time that I ever see my finger.

00:14It's stuck. Yeah, it's got a hook in his mouth and there's a bunch of fishing weights and fishing line.

00:20I saw this pup boy and he was so big I thought it was a French Bulldog down there. I kept looking

00:25closer and I was like, why is he swimming around like that? And then I realized that the fishing

00:29weights were holding him down trapped on the reef. Who knows how long he's been down here.

00:34I was like, I gotta rescue him. Of course, I don't have my knife.

00:41This is definitely not my favorite place to dive. The wave is pushing us around like crazy.

00:48I went down and tried to see if I can grab onto him and grab the hook. I just start to try to work

00:54it out. It's barbed so it's really, really difficult. I'm like doing everything I can

01:00to move it around and see if I can grab onto his face.

01:06He opens his mouth even wider as if he's trying to bite me.

01:11I'm afraid to grab it. I'll have to hold his face. I don't know if he'll like that.

01:16I didn't want to freak him out any more than he was already. He doesn't know that I'm trying to help him.

01:25I'm like trying to think of what else I could do. And then the fishing hook almost hooks onto me.

01:30We almost end up being two fishies stuck out there. And then I start to realize,

01:34what if I can untie it down here? Then he'll be swimming around with like two feet of fishing

01:39line and it's not that bad. He'll at least be able to live. So I start to work on it.

01:45Felt like an eternity getting bashed around by the waves. Pull a big loop right there.

01:51I'm finally making some progress on the knot. I finally get it undone and he's free.

01:58And then he's off on his way. Says thank you to Brittany and I for our help in rescuing him.

02:06Well, we saved an innocent fish's life. We saved the puffer fish today. He looked at me in the face

02:12and said, please help me. It was so cool that we were able to save him because he would have

02:16just ended up here, right place, right time. So I'm just grateful that we got to do that.

02:20And now all I have left to do is clean up the fishing line. It's just wrapped all crazy on

02:25this reef. I'll pull on it. It pops and I'm able to take it off. Brittany found this lure. So I

02:32put the lure in with the fishing weight, put it in my pocket, found this golf ball, a water bottle

02:37or a soda bottle, I guess. And then Brittany found that soda can. And she's like, oh,

02:41here's all the trash that we found. Crazy mission that we went on. There was huge waves.

02:54It was just absolutely insane. But we did our part to help protect the ocean life out here.
