00:00Paris Olympics. She was bidding for a record five gold medals. Gymnastics
00:05legend Simone Biles will have to settle for three at these games. Biles slipping
00:09towards the end of her routine on the balance beams, gifting Italy's Alice
00:13D'Amato the win. The floor exercise followed to tell the tale. Let's cross to
00:19France 24's Celina Sykes. Celina, tell us more.
00:25Well Francois, it was a day of surprises and shock results really here at
00:30Bursa Arena. Rebecca Anrade winning the gold in the floor exercise and Simone
00:35Biles having to settle for silver. Biles knew that she had to deliver big on her
00:41floor routine after a flawless performance from the Brazilian Anrade.
00:45Biles performing two of her signature skills named after her. The height and
00:51power when you watch her do those tumbles is quite extraordinary. It's
00:55really quite something that we've never seen before in women's gymnastics. She is
00:58the best tumbler we have ever seen in the history of women's gymnastics but
01:02she stepped out of the area several times because of the sheer power and
01:06height of those tumbles and got some heavy deductions and that is ultimately
01:11what cost her here at Bursa Arena. She's usually unbeatable because of the
01:16sheer difficulty of what she does and no one else can do what she does but it
01:22happened here today. The Brazilian Rebecca Andrade and it has to be giving
01:26credit to her as well. She did a flawless routine at Bursa Arena full of
01:30Americans falling into a weird kind of silence once Biles' score came
01:35through and it was confirmed that the Brazilian would be getting the gold
01:40medal on the floor exercise and it was her first gold for the
01:47gymnast Rebecca Andrade and full credit should be given to her because
01:51she's grown up in this generation of Simone Biles. It's her first Olympics
01:55gold medal and she would have probably got her far many if she hadn't been
01:58competing so often with Biles by her side. Simone Biles having to settle for
02:03Silda and a weird end as well as Jordan Childs ended up getting the
02:08bronze after Team USA put in an appeal over her difficulty. She eventually got
02:14the bronze over Romanian Ana Balbusso from Romania and as you said
02:19Simone Biles also missing out on a medal earlier on the beam. A rare fall for her.
02:24I think it's the first that we've seen her fall in a big competition on the
02:28beam. She'd finished second in qualifiers on the beam
02:32but couldn't get a medal in that one either though she did manage to
02:36recompose herself for what was a absolutely a breathtaking a floor
02:40routine nevertheless even if it did get the silver and she'll go down Francoise
02:45obviously of being a pioneer of her sport of pushing the boundaries of what
02:49is possible and she's come here obviously as she said on her redemption
02:54tour after having suffered the twisties in Tokyo three years ago
02:57pulling out after the vast majority of events and she's come back here in Paris
03:01to end her Olympics career on her own terms and even if it might have not gone
03:05exactly to plan as she has wished for she's still got three gold medals here
03:10in the most prestigious gymnastic events the all-around women's events the team
03:14events and the vault which means that along with her gold medals in Rio there's
03:18three medals here in Paris gold medals and seven in total she still goes down
03:22as one of the greatest if not the greatest gymnast of all time yeah three
03:26golds one silver one bronze not a bad haul indeed Selena Sykes many thanks for
03:32that live update
