00:11There are three articles in English language. A, an, and the. These are the words that come
00:18before nouns and indicate the definiteness of a noun.
00:25We will learn the concept with a lot of examples. A and an, these two articles are called indefinite
00:35articles. And the article the is called definite article. We will learn the reason behind it
00:44with a lot of examples. Let's first learn the use of A and an, that is the indefinite
00:55articles. A is an article that is used before nouns that start with consonant sounds, that
01:05is all sounds except the vowel sounds. For example, a banana, a boy, a unicorn, a bench,
01:20a chair, etc. An is an article used before nouns that start with vowel sounds, like an
01:31apple, an honest person, an umbrella, an inkpot, an orange. Now the next rule is that A and an

03:25are looking beautiful. Here the is used for plural nouns, that is flowers. Now we will learn where
03:36do we use the. The is used when we are sure or definite about what or whom we are talking. Let's
03:47learn this concept with examples. Go and give this ice cream to a boy in the garden. What does
03:57it mean? It means that the boy is told to give the ice cream to any boy in the garden. Go and
04:08give this ice cream to the boy who is wearing a green t-shirt. Here we are sure or definite about
04:17the one we are talking. That is why we use the. Let's have some more examples. She ordered a red
04:28dress. Here the girl is referring to any red dress. She ordered the red dress which was on
04:38sale. Now here we know which dress the girl is talking about as she said the dress and not a
04:47dress. Here we have another example. It is very difficult to look after children. Here we are
04:58talking about the children in general and not about any particular children. Please look after
05:05the children in the class. Here we are talking about particular children, those children who
05:13are in the class. I love watching monkeys. The monkeys in the cage are very naughty. Here the
05:25is used because we definitely know which monkeys we are talking about. So kids the is used when
05:33we are sure or definite about what or whom we are talking and on the contrary a and n are used
05:43when we are not definite about the noun. That is why they are called indefinite articles and the
