00:00Now, earlier today, not everyone on stage was out to get Donald Trump.

00:04Our friend and colleague, the anchor of the Faulkner Focus, Harris Faulkner, she raised

00:09several very fair, very important issues.

00:11Take a look.

00:12I want to talk about something that bursts, and this is the weight of the inflation on

00:18this country right now.

00:20Much of that falls on the shoulders of single moms, single black moms, when you look statistically.

00:27How do you turn it around?

00:28What's your plan for the black community when it comes to money?

00:31The inflation is absolutely destroying our middle class, our working class, virtually

00:37every class.

00:39Inflation is a disaster in our country.

00:42Inflation is a country buster.

00:44It breaks every country.

00:45We had, in my opinion, the worst inflation we've had.

00:49They say it's 58 years, but I think it's much more than that.

00:52People can't buy houses.

00:53They no longer have the American dream.

00:56Young people, young black people, they don't have the American dream anymore.

01:01They can't buy a house.

01:02They can't borrow the money because of the cost of the money.

01:05They can't buy it because of the cost of housing, because of the cost of building, because of

01:09inflation.

01:10Inflation is a disaster, and it's destroying our country.

01:14All right, joining us now with more, the anchor of the Faulkner Focus, our friend, Harris

01:20Faulkner, also the host of Outnumbered.

01:22Great to see you, Harris.

01:23It was great to see you up there, too.

01:25I was glad you had the opportunity.

01:29Tell us from your perspective, because it seemed hostile, but on the other hand, maybe

01:34I didn't hear the crowd right, and you can bring us in the room, I heard a lot of people

01:39cheering for Donald Trump.

01:40Am I wrong?

01:41No, you're not wrong.

01:44I mean, there were people who were, you know, he's funny.

01:48So there were people who were listening closely enough to catch some of his humor and to laugh

01:52at that.

01:53I think there were a couple of times when people didn't like what he said.

01:56But at one point when he was talking about inflation and how he would try to turn things

02:00around with drill baby drill and energy and really going after that sector and making

02:07things cheaper in that sector, we're in heat waves, we're in coal spills, we're in all

02:12those things, making living, you know, cheaper to do with quality reserved.

02:19When he was going into all of that, apparently somebody in the front row, I couldn't see

02:23this woman, but apparently she was smiling, waving, doing something.

02:25He said, oh, OK, so you know what I'm talking about.

02:28You like what I'm saying.

02:30So, you know, there are some universals out there that we as human beings go to when we

02:36talk about the economy.

02:37I thought two things about today.

02:39I don't like it particularly when you're driven solely by emotion.

02:43So by getting the conversation tipped off, by by making it so emotional and so personal

02:50with one journalist and one interviewee, ABC News reporter versus Donald Trump.

02:57What happens there is that you keep the issues out and people aren't going to vote on whether

03:01or not those two like each other on stage.

03:04What people are going to vote on is, well, did he say anything?

03:07Did he leave something out that I need in my life?

03:11Help me choose.

03:12I have now.

03:13Well, this day is over, Sean.

03:14So now we've got 96 days left.

03:16How do I make a choice this November, having the potential Democratic candidate just dumped

03:22in the lap of voters and compare them to the man who has now gone to a place that was pretty

03:28hostile?

03:29I mean, they were expecting a lot of protesters who had some hostility behind the scenes at

03:33the National Association of Black Journalists as there was pressure on the NABJ not to host

03:39Donald Trump.

03:40They wanted them to rescind some of those journalists, rescind the invitation to the

03:43president.

03:44There were things you saw one of the co-chairs of this huge annual event bow out yesterday,

03:50just quit saying, well, for several reasons, Axios reporting it was internal and external

03:55pressure on her for having been part of an apparatus that booked Donald Trump as the

04:01featured speaker today at this big conference of black journalists.

04:06But I saw some opportunities to really press in.

04:09I wanted to know about Senator J.D. Vance.

04:11Sean, you and I have both covered this.

04:13I watch your show.

04:14You've pressed the president.

04:15Why did you choose him?

04:16He's had some stumbles.

04:18Is he really ready for day one?

04:20And there were times when audio was really a problem.

04:23I mean, they had tech issues at NABJ that we could have even helped them with and would

04:28have been happy to.

04:30They chose a different route and it was pretty bad in there.

04:33Like we couldn't always hear each other.

04:35But I do think that that point got across.

04:38I repeated myself a couple of times.

04:40I think people do have that question.

04:42We've covered it enough to know.

04:43Why him?

04:44What's your plan moving forward with your VP pick?

04:47He told me, Sean, on the very day that he was shot four hours after I sat with him at

04:52Mar-a-Lago and an assassination attempt on his life.

04:55And I told I said this to the audience today.

04:57I said, you told me that picking a VP was important because now you realize bad things

05:03can happen.

05:04He said it twice.

05:06Four hours later, a bad thing, a really bad thing happened.

05:09So is this the guy that you have faith in?

05:12And if you do, talk about him.

05:14He did a bit, but I think it bears saying Kamala Harris is going to make her VP pick.

05:21Are you ready for that?

05:22Is this guy ready?

05:23So I had some substantive questions that I did get to.

05:28But when you go down an emotional road or a gotcha moment, it makes it difficult.

05:33And I worked my best as a journalist to get us back on track to having a real what we

05:38promised the audience, a real conversation.

05:41I love the fact that some of those very journalists, Sean, who criticized the situation with inviting

05:47Trump sat there and listened and participated.

05:53More than eleven hundred of them.

05:55And then you had rows and rows and rows of global American national local media taking

06:01it in.

06:02I mean, I think that's where we should be.

06:04I don't want to know journalists as activists.

06:07That was actually a real bright side of this.

06:11I think at the end of the day, I don't like identity politics.

06:15My Christian faith, I know we share the same faith.

06:19I don't like demographic breakdowns.

06:22The bottom line to me is, are you more safe and more secure in your town and in your city?

06:27Are the borders more secure?

06:30Is the economy, how's that working out for you and your family?

06:33How are you doing economically?

06:35How's your educational system, which is the ladder to success in this country?

06:39How are we on the world stage?

06:41What is our role in the world stage?

06:42But Harris, we are really proud of you.

06:44I thought you did an amazing job today.

06:46It was great to see you up there.

06:48Thank you.
