Elmar Asgarzade, Chief Science Officer at Extra Mile Technologies and Senior Engineer at Baku Higher Oil School, shares his journey in developing a pioneering green invention that significantly reduces engine friction and fuel consumption.
Transcript
00:00After failing our first startup company, we came together, brainstormed a new idea, did lots of experiments on ionic liquids with different compositions,
00:11and found the best solution that works for reducing the friction inside the engine.
00:16We reduced friction by 30%. This translates into 5% of fuel consumption.
00:21And our product has been tested and validated by one of the biggest energy companies in the world.
00:31I'm a co-founder and chief science officer at Xtremi Technologies.
00:35At Xtremi Technologies, we develop innovative and advanced friction modifiers for lubricants,
00:41and we aim to reduce friction and fuel consumption in the transportation sector.
00:46Our product works like the magic of magnets.
00:49When you try to approach two same sides of magnets to each other, they repel each other, like a hyperloop.
00:56When you add product to engine, it creates the ionic repulsion forces in microscopic scale.
01:02And in this way, you can reduce friction much more efficiently compared to other products.
01:08My background is chemical engineering. I have studied my bachelor's degree at Bakuhai Law School here,
01:14then continued my master's degree also in chemical engineering.
01:18I always wanted to create new solutions to solve climate crisis around the world.
01:24Therefore, in my bachelor's degree, I started working on different science projects.
01:29I came across the Social Innovation Lab in Azerbaijan.
01:33They were collecting climate tech ideas and sent them to the world's biggest clean tech accelerator program called Climate Launchpad.
01:42We got first place here in Azerbaijan and then went to Scotland and became a global finalist there.
01:49In Azerbaijan, each year, two people are awarded by Presidential Yalts Award in innovation and entrepreneurship.
01:56And I'm very lucky that I was one of that people who got that prestigious award in Azerbaijan.
02:04At the same time, I'm working at Bakuhai Law School as an innovation and research specialist.
02:10Now I can say that at Bakuhai Law School, every student has access to laboratory, to entrepreneurship
02:17because we conduct a lean startup program first to help them to understand what's entrepreneurship,
02:23how they can start their own ideas, implement them, and validate them.
02:28When we combine the science with entrepreneurship, we can create the best solution that help our community.
02:35Working with the students means a lot to me because when I see themselves working on new solutions,
02:41then apply the solution in real case.
02:44This gives me encouragement because I see myself to help my country and new generation to create new solutions
02:52that can be beneficial for our community, for the environment and climate.
