00:00Local politicians from across the divide have expressed their outrage

00:05over the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

00:09In a Facebook post, past President Abdul Hadi Awang

00:12condemned Israel for the assassination

00:14and conveyed his condolences to Haniyeh's family.

00:18But Dalingjaya MP Li Qiancheng said

00:20Haniyeh's killing showed a blatant disregard

00:23for international law and the principles of sovereignty.

00:27He said such actions not only escalate regional tensions

00:30but also violate the norms of conduct

00:32and the protection of human rights.

00:35Li called on the United Nations to condemn the assassination

00:38and assist in the investigation into Haniyeh's death.

00:42In a social media post, Bersatu leader and former foreign minister

00:45Saifuddin Abdullah also expressed shock and dismay at Haniyeh's death.

00:50According to Hamas, Haniyeh was assassinated this morning

00:53hours after he attended a swearing-in ceremony for Iran's new president.
