00:00Every summer, our Instagram feed is populated by pictures and reels of beautiful Greek islands
00:11with turquoise water, white houses, and a lot of tourists.
00:17But if you, like me, are not a fan of crowds and love history, follow me on this four-day
00:21road trip in the Peroponnese region in mainland Greece.
00:29I flew to Athens and rented a car there.
00:32I then drove two hours to our first destination, Epidaurus.
00:37This town is famous for two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
00:40One of them is a sanctuary dedicated to Asclepius, the god of medicine.
00:45The other is a theater that was built in the 4th century BC and is still in use for events
00:50like the Athens Festival and Epidaurus Festival.
00:54After exploring these sites, I drove 30 minutes to Nafplio and spent the night there.
00:59I drove for about two hours from Nafplio to Mystras, a very small village around three
01:03miles away from Sparta, where you can find some of the best traditional Greek foods,
01:09like souvlaki, tzatziki, or moussaka.
01:13This place is a unique example of the late Byzantine era, thanks to the presence of its
01:17distinct and well-preserved architectural elements.
01:22I spent the whole day enjoying nature and visiting the remains of its fortifications,
01:27the Byzantine churches, and the monastery.
01:32I drove one hour and 40 minutes to the northeast of the Peloponnese to visit the city of Corinth.
01:38Corinth's recorded history goes back 5,000 years.
01:42Unfortunately, the ancient city of Corinth was demolished by two earthquakes,
01:46one in 1858 and another in 1928.
01:50Today, it's an archaeological site, where you can visit the Museum of Ancient Corinth.
01:55Many tourists come here to visit the Temple of Apollo, the city's symbol of glory.
02:00I decided to admire the temple at sunset, and it was one of the highlights of my trip.
02:06If you have some extra time, go up to the Acropolis of Corinth.
02:10You can either go by car or bike, or walk there if you're in very good shape.
02:15From here, you can enjoy some beautiful views of the ancient Corinth from above.
02:21My last stop, Delphi, is three hours away.
02:24It was considered the center of the world by ancient Greeks.
02:27In ancient Greece, in fact, people would come here from all over the country,
02:31to the Panhellenic sanctuary of Apollo, to talk to the oracle and discover about their future.
02:37Delphi lies between two towering rocks of Mount Parnassus, and when you step in,
02:42you can feel how the site is charged with sacred meanings and ancient rituals.
02:48It was a unique experience.
02:49Even though there were quite a lot of tourists there, I would highly recommend visiting Delphi.
02:54The trip was an immersion into Greece's history and mythology.
02:58Coming back home felt like jumping forward in time.
03:01I truly enjoyed this historical road trip and exploring a part of Greece that doesn't get enough love.
