A North West London council has started a new scheme to tackle fly-tipping, which has
00:05
led to a 141% increase in fixed penalty notices issued in a month. As part of the initiative,
00:14
Brent council said it had employed more patrol teams which can issue fines of up to £1,000.
00:21
The council said 851 people had been issued with an FPN for fly-tipping in the month up
00:27
to 27th of June.

You know, on the ground, it's kind of a shame, it sort of seems like a sign that people are
01:03
not really invested in their community.
01:07
I think, I mean littering is not great for the environment obviously, but is it like,
01:12
I know that people, I mean is it like just littering, or you know people who dump furniture,
01:16
is it that includes that as well? I think there should be help as well, because obviously
01:20
usually the poor people, they can't dispose because they haven't got a vehicle, they can't
01:24
afford to take the things to the tip, so there's also that aspect, there's obviously being
01:27
like disrespectful, but there's also the aspect of not having the income to dispose of your
01:32
furniture I guess, so they just dump them on the street, so increasing like the fines
01:36
is not always the answer really.
01:39
I guess the reason people do that is that they feel like nothing's going to happen,
01:45
which is probably true most of the time. So yeah, if they can, yeah I mean if it's illegal
01:50
then they should either enforce it or change the law and make it not illegal, or make it
01:55
easier to get rid of stuff like that.
