00:00Sungai Besar UMNO Chief Jamal Yunus' seven-year legal battle with Seputu MP Teresa Kok ended

00:08today, after the federal court denied him leave to appeal a libel judgment in the DAP

00:13leader's favor.

00:14A three-member bench chaired by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak, Rahman Sebli, found

00:19no merit in the legal questions posed by Jamal.

00:22To obtain leave to appeal, the apex court must be satisfied that the case involves novel

00:27legal or constitutional questions of public importance being raised for the first time.

00:32Rahman, who sat with Justices Nordin Hassan and Abdul Karim Abdul Jadil, also awarded

00:37Kok 30,000 ringgit in costs.

00:40Previously, the court of appeal upheld a high court ruling that Jamal defamed Kok and ordered

00:45him to pay 300,000 ringgit in damages.

00:48Kok filed the defamation suit in 2017 after Jamal accused her of misappropriating funds

00:53from the Selangor government's Scheme Misra Usia Umas initiative.

00:57Lawyer Esen Nair confirmed that Jamal complied with the court of appeal's order by paying

01:01the judgment sum on April 14th.
