Craig Carton joined Sal Licata earlier to discuss the upcoming Yankees series he will be doing play by play for.

00:01We've spoken, yes.

00:02Like sat down, spoken on the phone?

00:04I'll be going there prior to the 9th to say hi in person, but we have spoken.

00:09And how did that go?

00:10It was great, very cordial, and it's going to be awesome.

00:14I'm pumped for it.

00:16I'm fascinated by this dynamic.

00:18Yeah, everybody is.

00:19Yeah.

00:20Well, of course.

00:21Yeah, just because Al Dukes got mad at those guys for not asking about it doesn't mean

00:23you have to be aggressive about it.

00:24I'm not aggressive.

00:25It's the number one thing that I think was on my mind.

00:29I know for you it's not going to be a problem.

00:30We're professionals.

00:32We're going to be great.

00:33My next question, you're obviously a great talk show host, and your personality is your

00:38strength, so how do you interject your personality in a professional Yankee broadcast we're trying

00:43to deliver play-by-play on the radio?

00:45I view baseball play-by-play as two things in one.

00:49There's the action.

00:50There's not a lot of it.

00:51Right.

00:52As compared to basketball, hockey, et cetera, right?

00:54Everything in between is like doing a talk show.

00:57So, I'm really competent at doing a talk show.

01:00We're going to find out.

01:01With a co-host.

01:02Yeah, and I have a co-host who also has talk radio chops.

01:05Right.

01:06You know, the first voice ever heard on the fan.

01:08And I think, I hope, we'll have fun together going back and forth.

01:14Is it awkward for you at all being the one, like for Susan, whatever, she's been there,

01:18and you were the one who was, you know, having fun at her expense over the years.

01:22I did, for sure.

01:23Was it awkward for you to have to be like, hey, I get that it's radio when it's, you

01:28know, we're entertaining here.

01:29No, because we talked a couple weeks ago, and it was very honest on both sides.

01:35Like, I wouldn't take back what I did.

01:37Right.

01:38You know, for 10 years with Boomer in the morning.

01:40And if I said I would, I'd be lying.

01:42Because I thought it was entertaining.

01:43I did what I thought was the most entertaining style of talk show you could do.

01:47And she had every right to be upset with that because it's her fault.

01:50Right.

01:51I also had a huge gulp of humble pie, self-inflicted, of course.

01:55Right.

01:56Where, well, I can't take it back.

01:57I don't apologize for what I did because I would have done it again.

02:01At the same time, I'm sensitive to the fact that your words can hurt also.

02:06So, look, she's a pro.

02:08And that's the agreement we have.

02:10She's going to be a pro.

02:11I'm going to be a pro.

02:12Hopefully, we'll have a good time together going back and forth.

02:14And I don't mess up any significant call in the game.
