Hi kids, today we will learn about two transformations, that is, reflection and rotation.
00:12
So let's start!
00:16
First of all, we know that transformation is any process which changes the position,
00:22
shape or viewing angle of any shape.
00:28
There are different types of transformation depending upon the kind of change it's doing
00:33
to the 2D shape.
00:37
Let's first learn what is reflection.
00:41
Reflection is also a type of transformation where a transformed image is flipped image
00:48
over the line of reflection.
00:52
Here this is the flipped or reflected image of an arrow.
00:59
Here we have an E letter, which is reflected.
01:05
Reflections are the mirror images as seen across a line or a point.
01:11
If you place a mirror on the line of symmetry of an object, you see the other half in its
01:18
reflected image.
01:21
And if you place mirror on any edge of a 2D figure, you will get its reflected image.
01:29
Here are more examples of reflected images.
01:35
Reflection is also same as rotating the object 180 degrees like this.
01:45
Points on an image and its reflection are equidistant from the line of reflection or
01:53
mirror line.
01:55
When a point is reflected in a mirror line, the point and the image of the point are equidistant
02:02
or same distant from the mirror line.
02:07
Let's have a look at example.
02:10
A is the point on actual image and A dash is the point on reflected image.
02:19
Both the points are equidistant from the mirror line.
02:24
Let's have a look at another example.
02:28
A dash B dash C is a reflected triangle then.
02:33
A and A dash are equidistant from the line of reflection.
02:40
B and B dash are equidistant from the line of reflection.
02:46
C and C dash are equidistant from the line of reflection.
02:54
A figure and its reflected image are always concurrent to each other.
03:01
That is, they have same shape as well as same size.
03:07
A figure and its reflected image are congruent but face in opposite directions.
03:15
Here are examples.
03:18
Now let's learn another type of transformation.
03:22
It is rotation.
03:26
Rotation turns the figure clockwise or anticlockwise but doesn't change the figure anyhow.
03:35
Its shape and size of the image are not changed.
03:40
It is turning an object from left to right.
03:43
It is called turning clockwise.
03:47
Let's have a look at some examples.
03:50
This is image A after transformation of 90 degree clockwise turn or rotation.
03:59
This is image A after transformation of 180 degree clockwise turn or rotation.
04:09
This is image A after transformation of 270 degree clockwise turn or rotation.
04:21
This is image A after transformation of 360 degree clockwise turn or rotation.
04:30
We see that on rotation of 360 degree, we get the same image.
04:39
Now let's see counterclockwise rotation, that is, turning counterclockwise.
04:47
Turning counterclockwise is turning right to left.
04:53
This is image A after 90 degree counterclockwise turn or rotation.
05:01
This is image A after 180 degree counterclockwise turn or rotation.
05:09
This is image A after 270 degree counterclockwise turn or rotation.
05:18
This is image A after 360 degree counterclockwise turn or rotation.
05:27
That is on 360 degree counterclockwise turn, we get the same image.
05:36
So kids, we learned about transformations, that is, reflection and rotation.
05:44
Now you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
05:47
Bye-bye!
