00:00Daniel and his cousin Gia are about to play Ancient Quest, their favorite board game.
00:05As he sets up the game pieces, Daniel asks Gia about the order they'll play in.
00:10She says they can decide in a minute after she grabs some snacks, but Daniel insists
00:15that they decide on the order now.
00:17Daniel offers for her to go first and for him to go second.
00:21Gia agrees and heads to the kitchen.
00:24While she's out of the room, Daniel reorders the cards that go with the game.
00:28He puts all the best cards second, then Daniel chooses his favorite game piece, a tiny figurine
00:35of an old wizard, Father Time.
00:37Gia sits back down and they start the game.
00:40She goes first and draws a bad card.
00:43She shrugs it off.
00:44It's only the beginning of the game.
00:46Then Daniel draws his card.
00:48It's a good one.
00:49It takes his game piece, Father Time, way ahead of Gia's.
00:54On the next turn, the same thing happens.
00:57Gia draws a bad card, and then Daniel gets a good one.
01:01When the same exact thing happens on the third turn, Gia says she's changed her mind and
01:05actually wants to go second.
01:08Daniel panics.
01:09He doesn't want Gia to know he's rigged the game, but he also can't bear to lose.
01:13Daniel hates losing.
01:15He has to win, always, no matter what it takes.
01:19Daniel tells her she can't go second.
01:22They've already started playing, and they decided on the order Fair and Square.
01:27Gia looks at Daniel suspiciously, then down at the pile of cards.
01:31When she accuses Daniel of cheating, he denies it.
01:35Gia asks him to prove it.
01:37The only option is to give Gia her way, because that's the thing about Daniel.
01:41He hates losing at anything, even an argument.
01:45They continue the game with a new turn order.

03:07Gia gets up to go to the kitchen.
03:09Daniel reorders the cards.
03:11They start the game.
03:13Daniel wins this round too, but right as he does, it's back to the beginning of the

03:18And over, and over, and over again.
03:22Daniel keeps winning.
03:24And winning.

03:26Eventually, he gets bored.
03:28In the middle of what must be their twentieth game, he asks Gia if they can take a break.
03:33But she can't seem to hear him.
03:36She just takes her turn and keeps playing.
03:39Daniel tries to not take his next turn, but out of his control, his hand chooses a card
03:44and moves Father Time across the board.
03:47He's hot to the touch again.
03:49One.
03:50More.
03:51Game.
03:52Whispers a faint voice, coming from the direction of the board game.
03:56But it's not one more game.
03:59It's many more games.
04:01Many, many more games.
04:04And Daniel wins every single one of them.
04:06He can't seem to stop playing.
04:08No matter what he does, Daniel loses track of time.
04:12The game resets, as usual.
04:15Gia goes to the kitchen, as usual.
04:17Daniel starts reordering the cards, as usual.
04:21And then, Daniel has an idea.
04:24He knows what he has to do.
04:26As painful as it is, Daniel orders the cards with all of the bad ones for his turn, and
04:32all the good ones for Gia's.
04:35They start the game.
04:36Gia picks a good card.
04:38Daniel picks a bad one.
04:40Gia picks another good card.
04:42Daniel picks another bad one.
04:44Father Time grows colder in Daniel's hand each turn.
04:49When Gia wins the game, the game board does not reset.
04:52Instead, Daniel hears himself yelling,
04:55One.
04:56More.
04:57Game.
04:58But in an old man's voice.
05:02Daniel rushes to the mirror in the entryway.
05:04In the reflection, he sees an old man.
05:07As old as Father Time.
