00:00Welcome to German A1 course by Omega Language Academy. This is your session 2 and today

00:06we gonna study Alphabet. I think you know what Alphabet are in English right? A,B,C,D.

00:12So let's talk about the first one. In English it's A but in German it's A. As in Arm. So

00:19if you remove RM it is how it is pronounced. A. For an example for A it's Apfel. Remember

00:28the way it is pronounced separately and in each word is different. So it might be different

00:34for letter and different in the word. We will see in the future in the coming letters. For

00:38this it's A and here it's Apfel. Okay this means apple. You don't need to know the meaning

00:44of the word. Just see how it is pronounced. A Apfel. Second one B it's Bär not B anymore

00:53in German. Like we say in bell. So if you remove L it's called Bär. Bruder means brother.

01:04So B is Bär. Next one we have is C. C is Se as in Cell. So you remove L again both

01:14L's and then it is Se. It's Se-der not C-D anymore in German. Then we have D. In English

01:23it's D but in German it's Der. Like in Dam. In English we say Dam. So Der. That's how

01:30it is pronounced. Here we have Damen. See again I told you. It will be pronounced separately

01:37or let's say differently for letter and word. For letter it's Der. For the word it could

01:43be simple Der. For example here it's Damen. Damen means a lady. E is E as in Get. The

01:53E sound in Get. And in a word it is pronounced as Elephant. F is same as English. No change.

02:05F and Frau. Frau is a woman. G is pronounced as Ge as in Gas. We say Gas. So you remove

02:15S. It's same sound Ge. And a word for that would be Geld. Geld means money. Moving ahead

02:23we have H. It's Ha. Like in Ham. We say Ham. So we remove Rm. It's Ha. And the word for

02:32that is Hund. See again we don't say it Hound. We say it Hund in German. Letter pronounced

02:39separately and word separately. So Ha and Hund. Now this is called E as in Eel. So remove

02:49L. It's E. Isch. Isch means I in German. J is little bit weird. So there is no English

02:58sound for that. So I didn't write any. Here it's Yacht. J is pronounced separately as

03:05a letter as Yacht. But in a word it is used as Y. In most of the cases. Let's say 90%

03:1210%. It is again J itself. Here it's not Junge anymore. It's Junge. Junge means boy. So J

03:21is pronounced in a word as Y. But separately is pronounced as Yacht. K is pronounced as

03:29Ka. That is in Kam. We say Lm is removed and it is Ka. And the word is Kühlschrank. Kühlschrank

03:39is a refrigerator. So Kühl and Schrank. Both words. Schrank means any drawer. Kühl is

03:46Kühl. So Kühldrawer. Right. Refrigerator. L is same as English. And the word will be

03:52Leben. To live. M is same as English as well. Word is Mann. That is man. Then we have N

04:01also same as English. And the word is Niest. That is no. Right. Or not. O is same as English

04:09as well. Word would be Oa. That is ear. Now comes a change. P is pronounced as Pää. As

04:16in Pam. We say Pam. If you remove N, the sound which is produced is Pää. The word would

04:24be Pääna. It's like a breakdown. When you are driving and suddenly something happens

04:30in your car. That is the breakdown. Pääna means a breakdown. Q is Kuh. Like in cool.

04:38If you remove L, it's Kuhl. So this is Kuh. The word for that is Quadrant. That is square.

04:45That is when we say square. That is Quadrant. Then we have R is R. This is a little bit

04:51difficult sound in German. And it took me a lot of time. And it will take you definitely

04:57a lot of time. At least a month to get to the level that others can understand. I mean

05:01Germans can understand. The R sound is from the throat. R sound. R. And that is the sound

05:09which is created when we say Aristotle. So this R. Ristotal. This sound. Right. Rucksack

05:16is your backpack. Ruck is back. Sack is again sack. So Rucksack is your backpack in German.

05:24Then we have S which is pronounced same as English S. And word would be Sachen. Sachen

05:29are the things. Then we have T. It's Te as in telephone. Telephone we say. Right. So

05:37Te is the way to pronounce this letter. Then we have the word Teil. Teil is let's say section

05:45or chapter. Okay. U. I mean U is pronounced as U. Like in Usiness. So this U letter will

05:53come. Remove the Ziness. So U is how it is pronounced. And Uhr is the clock or the time.

06:01Is the word for that. Then we have W. It's again different as J. J is pronounced as Yacht.

06:08Remember. W is pronounced as Pfau. As in foul. If you remove L. This pronunciation comes

06:15out Pfau. Right. But if you use in a word. It is pronounced as F. So this is not water.

06:24This is Vater. Okay. Next comes W. It is pronounced as We. As in welcome. We. Right. If you remove

06:35the rest of that. We. The word for that is We. That is us. Or How. Sorry. We is how.

06:45Us. X is X. As in mix. So if you remove M. It is the remove. The remaining one is the pronunciation

06:56that is X for X. And the word for that is Xmal. That is X times. Mal is times. So Xmal is X times.

07:04I'm going to work on this X times. Right. Then we have Y is Ypsilon. There's no sound. There's

07:11just a symbol. Ypsilon symbol. It is called Ypsilon. And the word for it is Yard. Same as

07:16Yard. You know. Z is pronounced as Zet. No sound again. So the word is Zalen. There's a different

07:24rule why we call it Sa here. Not Sa. But we'll see later. But Zet separately. It's called Zet.
