00:00Hi kids, today we will learn division where we find quotient in decimals, so let's start.

00:12We distributed 16 liters of water equally in 5 buckets.

00:18How much water will be there in each bucket?

00:22So we have to divide 16 here with 5.

00:28First digit is smaller than our divisor, that is 1 here.

00:34So divide first two digits, that is 16.

00:41The multiple of 5 smaller and nearest to 16 is 15.

00:475 multiplied by 3 equals 15.

00:52So write 3 in quotient and write 15 below first two digits of dividend.

01:01Now subtract 15 from 16 and we get 1.

01:07Now there is no digit in the dividend left and 1 is less than 5, so 1 is our remainder.

01:18If 16 liters of water is divided into 5 buckets, each bucket will have 3 liters of water at

01:26least and 1 liter is left undivided.

01:31Now what about that 1 liter which is left?

01:35If we want to find how 16 liters of water will be completely divided into 3 buckets,

01:43we will divide this 1 liter further and our answer will be in decimals.

01:51Now that's what we are going to learn now.

01:56Finding answer in decimals or keep on dividing the number which is less than the divisor.

02:03So let's learn it.

02:07When the number left to be divided is less than remainder, we put a decimal point at

02:13the right of quotient and put a zero at the right of our remainder.

02:20I repeat, we put a decimal at the right of quotient and a zero at the right of number

02:27we have to divide.

02:29Now we have to divide 10 by 5, 5 multiplied by 2 equals 10.

02:38So write 2 in quotient right to the decimal and write 10 below 10.

02:44Now subtract 10 from 10 and we get 0.

02:50No remainder is left or we have done the complete division.

02:56Our answer is 3.2.

03:00That means if we divide 16 liters of water into 5 buckets, each bucket will have 3.2

03:08liters of water.

03:46We have to divide 267 by 12 and find quotient in decimals.

03:55We will divide 26 by 12.

03:59Multiply 12 which is less than or equal to 26 is 24.

04:0612 multiplied by 2 equals 24.

04:10So write 2 in the quotient, 24 below first two digits of dividend and subtract.

04:20On subtraction we get 2.

04:23Now the digit left in the dividend to be divided is 7.

04:28Bring it down.

04:30Now we have to divide 27 by 12.

04:35The nearest multiple of 12 is 24.

04:4012 multiplied by 2 equals 24.

04:46So write 2 to the right of the quotient and 24 below 27.

04:53Now subtract 24 from 27.

04:58On subtracting we get 3.

05:02Now 3 is less than divisor which is 12.

05:09So if you do not have to find the quotient in decimals then our answer is 22 and 3 is

05:16our remainder.

05:19Or we have to find the answer to the quotient of up to two decimal places.

05:27So what we do here is put a decimal point to the right of quotient and a zero to the

05:33right of the number left that is 3.

05:38Now we have to divide the number 30 with 12.

05:42Now again the nearest, again the multiple of 12 nearest and smaller than 30 is 24.

05:5012 multiplied by 2 is 24.

05:55So write 2 to the right of the quotient and 24 below 30 and subtract.

06:02On subtraction we get 6.

06:06Again we have to divide 6 with 12.

06:10Once you have put decimal in the quotient you can put 0 to the left of the number left.

06:17So you can put 0 to the right of 6 without appending any 0 in the quotient.

06:26So we have to divide 60 by 12 and the nearest multiple of 12 is 60.

06:3412 multiplied by 5 equals 60.

06:38So write 5 in the quotient and write 60 below 60.

06:43And on subtracting we get 0.

06:46So we have done complete division and our answer is 22.25.

06:53Kids, now let's take one more example to learn more.

07:01We have to divide 100 by 3.

07:05Remember we have to find quotient just up to two decimal places even if the number is

07:11not completely divided.

07:14So let's start.

07:16For dividing first two digits we find multiple of 3 less than equal to 10.

07:233 multiplied by 3 equals 9.

07:28So write 3 in quotient and 9 below 10 and subtract.

07:33On subtraction we get 1.

07:37Now one digit is left in the dividend.

07:41It's 0.

07:43So bring it down.

07:45Now again we have to divide 10.

07:483 multiplied by 3 equals 9.

07:52So write 3 in quotient and 9 below 10.

07:57Now subtract.

07:58On subtraction we get 1.

08:02Now 1 is less than the divisor that is 3.

08:06Now all the digits in the dividend are divided.

08:10No more digit is left.

08:13If we are not asked to find the answer in decimals then 1 is remainder here and 33 is

08:21quotient.

08:22But we will find the answer in decimals.

08:26So what we do here is put a decimal to the right of quotient and a 0 to the number left

08:33that is 1.

08:36Now again we have to divide 10 by 3.

08:403 multiplied by 3 equals 9.

08:44So write 3 in the quotient and 9 below 10.

08:49On subtracting we get 1.

08:53Now as we have decimal in the quotient we can put 0 to the right of the number left

09:00to be divided again.

09:02So put 0 the left of 1.

09:07And we get 10.

09:09Now again divide 10 with 3.

09:123 multiplied by 3 is 9.

09:16So write 3 in the quotient and 9 below 10.

09:20On subtracting we get 1 again.

09:25We had to solve the question up to 3 decimal places and we are done with it.

09:31Our answer is 33.33 and remainder 1.
