00:00
Hi kids, today we will learn division where we find quotient in decimals, so let's start.
00:12
We distributed 16 liters of water equally in 5 buckets.
00:18
How much water will be there in each bucket?
00:22
So we have to divide 16 here with 5.
00:28
First digit is smaller than our divisor, that is 1 here.
00:34
So divide first two digits, that is 16.
00:41
The multiple of 5 smaller and nearest to 16 is 15.
00:47
5 multiplied by 3 equals 15.
00:52
So write 3 in quotient and write 15 below first two digits of dividend.
01:01
Now subtract 15 from 16 and we get 1.
01:07
Now there is no digit in the dividend left and 1 is less than 5, so 1 is our remainder.
01:18
If 16 liters of water is divided into 5 buckets, each bucket will have 3 liters of water at
01:26
least and 1 liter is left undivided.
01:31
Now what about that 1 liter which is left?
01:35
If we want to find how 16 liters of water will be completely divided into 3 buckets,
01:43
we will divide this 1 liter further and our answer will be in decimals.
01:51
Now that's what we are going to learn now.
01:56
Finding answer in decimals or keep on dividing the number which is less than the divisor.
02:03
So let's learn it.
02:07
When the number left to be divided is less than remainder, we put a decimal point at
02:13
the right of quotient and put a zero at the right of our remainder.
02:20
I repeat, we put a decimal at the right of quotient and a zero at the right of number
02:27
we have to divide.
02:29
Now we have to divide 10 by 5, 5 multiplied by 2 equals 10.
02:38
So write 2 in quotient right to the decimal and write 10 below 10.
02:44
Now subtract 10 from 10 and we get 0.
02:50
No remainder is left or we have done the complete division.
02:56
Our answer is 3.2.
03:00
That means if we divide 16 liters of water into 5 buckets, each bucket will have 3.2
03:08
liters of water.
03:10
Kids, here is a comparison for you.
03:15
Here is division where we stop the division when we get a number which is less than divisor
03:22
or we call it our remainder.
03:26
An answer is always a whole number.
03:30
And here is division where we keep on dividing even number which is less than divisor and
03:38
our answer comes in decimals.
03:42
Now let's have a look at more examples.
03:46
We have to divide 267 by 12 and find quotient in decimals.
03:55
We will divide 26 by 12.
03:59
Multiply 12 which is less than or equal to 26 is 24.
04:06
12 multiplied by 2 equals 24.
04:10
So write 2 in the quotient, 24 below first two digits of dividend and subtract.
04:20
On subtraction we get 2.
04:23
Now the digit left in the dividend to be divided is 7.
04:28
Bring it down.
04:30
Now we have to divide 27 by 12.
04:35
The nearest multiple of 12 is 24.
04:40
12 multiplied by 2 equals 24.
04:46
So write 2 to the right of the quotient and 24 below 27.
04:53
Now subtract 24 from 27.
04:58
On subtracting we get 3.
05:02
Now 3 is less than divisor which is 12.
05:09
So if you do not have to find the quotient in decimals then our answer is 22 and 3 is
05:16
our remainder.
05:19
Or we have to find the answer to the quotient of up to two decimal places.
05:27
So what we do here is put a decimal point to the right of quotient and a zero to the
05:33
right of the number left that is 3.
05:38
Now we have to divide the number 30 with 12.
05:42
Now again the nearest, again the multiple of 12 nearest and smaller than 30 is 24.
05:50
12 multiplied by 2 is 24.
05:55
So write 2 to the right of the quotient and 24 below 30 and subtract.
06:02
On subtraction we get 6.
06:06
Again we have to divide 6 with 12.
06:10
Once you have put decimal in the quotient you can put 0 to the left of the number left.
06:17
So you can put 0 to the right of 6 without appending any 0 in the quotient.
06:26
So we have to divide 60 by 12 and the nearest multiple of 12 is 60.
06:34
12 multiplied by 5 equals 60.
06:38
So write 5 in the quotient and write 60 below 60.
06:43
And on subtracting we get 0.
06:46
So we have done complete division and our answer is 22.25.
06:53
Kids, now let's take one more example to learn more.
07:01
We have to divide 100 by 3.
07:05
Remember we have to find quotient just up to two decimal places even if the number is
07:11
not completely divided.
07:14
So let's start.
07:16
For dividing first two digits we find multiple of 3 less than equal to 10.
07:23
3 multiplied by 3 equals 9.
07:28
So write 3 in quotient and 9 below 10 and subtract.
07:33
On subtraction we get 1.
07:37
Now one digit is left in the dividend.
07:41
It's 0.
07:43
So bring it down.
07:45
Now again we have to divide 10.
07:48
3 multiplied by 3 equals 9.
07:52
So write 3 in quotient and 9 below 10.
07:57
Now subtract.
07:58
On subtraction we get 1.
08:02
Now 1 is less than the divisor that is 3.
08:06
Now all the digits in the dividend are divided.
08:10
No more digit is left.
08:13
If we are not asked to find the answer in decimals then 1 is remainder here and 33 is
08:21
quotient.
08:22
But we will find the answer in decimals.
08:26
So what we do here is put a decimal to the right of quotient and a 0 to the number left
08:33
that is 1.
08:36
Now again we have to divide 10 by 3.
08:40
3 multiplied by 3 equals 9.
08:44
So write 3 in the quotient and 9 below 10.
08:49
On subtracting we get 1.
08:53
Now as we have decimal in the quotient we can put 0 to the right of the number left
09:00
to be divided again.
09:02
So put 0 the left of 1.
09:07
And we get 10.
09:09
Now again divide 10 with 3.
09:12
3 multiplied by 3 is 9.
09:16
So write 3 in the quotient and 9 below 10.
09:20
On subtracting we get 1 again.
09:25
We had to solve the question up to 3 decimal places and we are done with it.
09:31
Our answer is 33.33 and remainder 1.
09:38
So kids today we learned how to find quotient up to the precision of 2 decimal places.
09:47
Now you may go ahead and take a quiz to learn more.
09:50
Bye bye.
