Scarbrough's Alpamare reopens: A first look inside

Sophie Mei Lan Malin went to try out Alpamare waterpark as it's reopened by Flamingo Land operators.

00:00We've finally returned to one of our favourite water parks to see how it is now, now it's reopening.

00:06Yes we're at Alpamare here on Scarborough's North Bay and Flamingo Land have taken it over alongside

00:14help from the council from last December when the last operator went into administration.

00:20Let's go and check it out.

00:23It were ideal for the younger kids to have a splash around in the little baby and toddler area

00:30as well as a mini slide perfect for the big kids like me as well to take the kids on it.

00:39Be prepared to get wet too but also have some grown-up time as you head to the infinity pool

00:47overlooking the stunning North Bay. It literally helps you feel like you're on holiday here in

00:56Scarborough and then it was time for the wave pool, splashing with the kids.

01:06And no water park is perfect without going on the slide. So hi-ho, hi-ho, up with the inflatables

01:15we go.

01:22How was that girls?

01:26So it's pretty much the old Alpamare as it stood other than that the Star Reservoir has yet

01:34but I am going to chat to the owner now to see if there's any tweaks

01:38or anything that we should expect in the future.

01:42What's it like opening here on your home turf?

01:46Truly rewarding, I've got to put all that personal stuff to one side really because it's not about me it's about

01:52Alpamare, the warm park, up and running and a wonderful job rewarding everyone that's done a

01:58great job on getting this far but yeah secretly puts a big smile on my face thinking I've managed

02:03to help get the building heated and the lights on again.

02:07And other than Alpamare where do you recommend going to in Scarborough?

02:11Well it's a good day the seaside probably and on the wet days we've of course got a wonderful

02:17facility indoors as well but I've been here as a customer at night time in winter and that was

02:22pretty magical you know nice to snog in the hot water overlooking the fantastic bright lights of

02:27Scarborough with steam coming up and yeah this is quite special really.

02:32And can we expect this spa to be back in at any point?

02:35Yeah well my team keep telling me off for being too optimistic I've only just done for opening but

02:41perhaps that was a little bit too ambitious having said that it was right to focus on the

02:46main target but it shouldn't take that long to get it operational it's a good state of repair

02:50up there we've been working hard on that side of it and probably plan to bring back people

02:55running their own businesses under our umbrella up there locally to get it up and running soon

03:00but I won't make any promises keep getting told off for doing that.

03:03And will you will we see any theme park rides here in the future?

03:07Absolutely not this is completely different interestingly the plans I saw for the original

03:13concept had a fifth ride which I'll be investigating in the fullness of time and

03:18there was also a lazy river planned for as well I don't know whether that actually achieved

03:23planning permission or whether it was just a conceptual droid but very intriguing and

03:28I'm actually speaking to the owner of Albumarra on Thursday so I'll be picking his brains about

03:32both of those oh and also there was provision for a lift to get the inflatables to the top

03:38of the slides which being a father of a lot of kids and having to carry those four-man dinghies

03:43up I would say that probably more sensible way to spend any profits if hopefully we create it.

03:52What did you think? It was great I had a lot of fun the slides were really entertaining and there

03:56was a lot to do. It did feel like holiday. I liked the wave pool and I like the infinity pool

04:03because you could lounge on it and you could lay in it and it was really nice.

04:06Bringing the baydos back to Scarbados.

04:10Well there were smiles all around from us as the park is set to reopen

04:16and as we all hope it's here to stay.
