00:00Now for Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal.
00:03We start out with Lyric trying to attack Amy right away with no introduction to Lyric.
00:09Then Amy stupidly snarks, getting distracted talking to Sonic on her phone.
00:14So of course she gets attacked and kidnapped by Lyric because he was right behind her the entire time.
00:20What a way to make her look like an idiot and ridiculous by someone they're desperately trying to sell to us as an action hero.
00:28Tails finds out what happened to Amy, saying that the files are a mess from when she dropped her tablet.
00:34So he has to fix up the corrupt files with the program and translate what Amy said.
00:40Tablets are way better built than that.
00:43They don't break from one drop.
00:47You'd have to throw it a huge amount of times for it to break.
00:52And I would expect her tablet to be invented by Tails.
00:56Then they argue over who tells Sticks that her best friend was kidnapped.
01:01Sticks thinks world peace is bad news.
01:05This came out of complete nowhere and she doesn't even bother to explain why she's against it.
01:11When she's supposed to be a good guy.
01:14Or why do they hang out with her then?
01:17Isn't she supposed to be considerate because she's a hero?
01:21Why the hell is Sonic...
01:23Oh, Sonic actually shows self-awareness.
01:26When he tells Sticks she can't rush ahead without a plan or clue, Sonic actually says that's what he does.
01:33So it's not like the writer has no idea what Sonic's personality is.
01:37He's just lecturing her that only he can be that way.
01:40Sonic has a really weird stilted line where he tells Sticks that teamwork is the only way to save Amy.
01:47He literally says that.
01:49It's more in character than Rise of Lyric where he hates teamwork.
01:53But it's still making Sonic look really lame and cheesy and pathetic.
01:58Literally saying a line like that so bluntly.
02:01He could have said they had to work together, but not teamwork.
02:05It just doesn't fit with the way Boom Sonic's personality is.
02:11You'd think he would be reluctant to admit this.
02:15Why did Sonic say that he thinks Sticks and Tails would make a pretty good team?
02:20Aren't they all used to Sticks being around? Isn't she always around?
02:24If this is supposed to be when she first joined the team, this is way too subtle of an origin for that.
02:31Sonic made a big deal out of letting Mike fight Eggman because he's just a guy.
02:37If this is the first time Sticks helped them, it would be about the same thing and he doesn't make a big deal out of it because she has a weapon.
02:45And then they have a boring, unnecessary joke where Sticks randomly says there's no I in teamwork and goes in a giant comedy routine about it.
02:55The cutscenes are just the characters standing around with a static camera angle.
03:01The annoying thing is that when Knuckles is found, it's implied that he could have been with Sonic the whole time, but wasn't.
03:07It's not like he was in trouble or anything.
03:09And then Knuckles complains to his friends about them standing around not looking for Amy when he's the one who's been doing nothing.
03:16Tails corrects Knuckles that he has to say whom.
03:20They made Tails look like someone who rudely corrects someone on their talking for no other reason than to make himself look smart.
03:27Since he has no reason to actually believe that he'll retain the information.
03:33I'm not sure if he's doing this just because he's a jerk though.
03:36Because he doesn't really act like a jerk.
03:39This isn't the type of humor that works.
03:42The writers tried to have us believe that while Tails was trashing robots and trying to get more info from Amy's log files,
03:48he was also thinking of inventing a really fast car and thinking of a recipe.
03:54I absolutely hate it being treated like an idiot.
03:57No one could be that good of a multitasker.
04:00You're always gonna make mistakes if you're multitasking.
04:04Because you're not focusing on anything.
04:07Tails thinks he's clever by saying it's ironic that Shadow came from the shadows.
04:12And then Knuckles at the very least takes him down a peg by calling him out on not saying whom.
04:17But then Knuckles tediously corrects Tails that it's whom when it isn't.
04:21Sonic repeats the shadow from the shadows joke and explains it.
04:26Which feels self-congratulatory of the writers.
04:30Then Sonic starts talking like a robot to imitate Shadow in an overly long unfunny gag.
04:37This kind of forced comedy is still not a place for an action series.
04:42Then there's a CG cutscene with voice acting and no subtitles.
04:46Where generic stuff happens with Shadow being kicked out of the brainwashing only to just run off on his own so he can't play as him.
04:53There's a cutscene where Knuckles wastes their time reminding us that he's supposed to be the character who only cares about using his strengths.
05:00It's fine at first, he says that he's more about breaking stuff than fixing stuff.
05:05But he just keeps repeating himself.
05:08Then their time is wasted with a cutscene taking way too long to say,
05:11It'll take forever to find Amy in this giant robot factory.
05:15Even though Sonic can run so fast that it should take him only a second.
05:19Knuckles looks like he has nuts in his cheeks.
05:22They must have caught this, they just let it go because they thought it would be funny because it's a comedy game.
05:28Interestingly enough, Eggman only appears in this game to make you race Metal Sonic.
05:34Which is weird considering how much exposure he has in the show.
05:38The characters even talk like they're going to a volcano to catch up with Metal Sonic.
05:42But all they do there is get a plane to get to Lyric.
05:45I love that Eggman has such little presence here because he's the main villain who's constantly shoved down my throat every game.
05:52And that really applies to the show.
05:54Although he can have charm there.
05:57But it's good to be refreshing compared to the show.
06:00In the volcano are ancient planes.
06:03So were the ancients called ancients in their time?
06:07We see an exciting plane trip where there's a static camera angle with the characters dryly talking boringly and saying funny dialogue.
06:16Wow, it's exactly like in the parody.
06:19There's a funny cutscene with a static camera angle where Amy argues with Lyric that Sonic's going to kick his butt.
06:26And Lyric says missing the point, the snakes don't have butts.
06:30When what a serious villain is supposed to do is not say that.
06:36This isn't even in character for him.
06:38I watched the parody video of this game and it's eerie just how accurate that was.
06:43Sonic and his friends have a generic teamwork speech that feels really out of place for Sonic the Hedgehog.
06:49Because I'd expect Sonic to be cool.
06:52Sticks outright calls herself a paranoid loose cannon.
06:56Nobody actually knows they're like that.
06:59And why doesn't Lyric grab Sonic as well as his friends?
07:04You could say overconfidence, but then he shouldn't have grabbed his friends in the first place.
07:09The CG cutscene ending is a waste of time.
07:12It's just the heroes talking generically about teamwork.
07:16Aren't they used to working together?
07:18So why are they talking about teamwork like it's a big deal?
07:22Yeah, this story sucked.
07:24It's nothing but boring jokes.
07:28The actual plot events are completely forgettable.
07:31Because it's literally just the characters go from one place to another like in every Sonic game.
07:36Except unlike in the rest of the 2D games, you don't have to free animals from badniks that they're powering.
07:44Which is something that makes Sonic unique.
07:47So the plot is completely forgettable.
07:50Except for the fact that Amy is kidnapped.
07:53Which only serves to make a fool out of both Amy because she was forced by an idiot bull to get kidnapped.
07:59And Lyric because of how he talks to her.
08:02It makes Rise of Lyric's plot look great by comparison.
08:06Of course, it's only so good a story can look with boring presentation like this anyways.
08:12I can see someone liking it if they think the comedy is hilarious though.
08:17Because that's the only appeal of this.
08:20Comedy can be done right in Sonic but it has to be either witty, snarky remarks or it's slapstick.
