The Railway Inn, Ketton named Pub of the Year

The Railway Inn, Ketton, Rutland, is named regional Pub of the Year by Camra. Landlord Jamie Betts is presented with a certificate as locals cheer from the bar.

00:00I'm Rich Harris, Chair of Rutland Camera. We came here in April and we're delighted to award Jamie

00:09and Luby with our Rutland Camera Pub of the Year. Fantastic pub as I said at the time and the guys

00:16worked so hard here to produce this for you. We're delighted also that it's now been recognised

00:25outside of the county of Rutland and I'd like to introduce Mr Philip Tiplady who is the area

00:33camera area organiser for not only Rutland, not only Northamptonshire but also Leicestershire.

00:40I now would like to say a few words.

00:53Camera organises a national pub of the year competition which starts with branches

00:59organising their pubs of the year then those pubs go into bigger and bigger areas until we get to

01:05the national final. First round in this part of the world is around the time responsible for in

01:12Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Rutland. All the branches, about eight I think in that area,

01:21put their pubs of the year forward. Camera members do the hard job of going around and judging the

01:27pubs. Not only on the quality of the beer but the welcome they receive, the service behind the bar,

01:38how comfortable they find the pub, how friendly they find the customers.

01:48The atmosphere in the pub which the management and the customers make together is

01:54very enforced in finding a pub where people are comfortable and want to stay and make the best of

02:00the British pub. I've not been into this pub very often but when I do come back my name is remembered

02:18behind the bar which is a pub with a remarkable service to the customers who wander in occasionally.

02:27I'm sure they feel even better about those of you who are here regularly.

02:33Anyway the winner in our area which is why I'm here was this pub and I have come to bring a stick of juice.

03:23Very kind of you. I do only accept this award on behalf of not just myself but my beloved dear wife.

03:35I remember a staff that's probably about a year in now I should think.

03:51Yeah, as you well know it wouldn't really work trying to win such an award if we didn't have

04:08such great locals. Without you it wouldn't happen so first and foremost I'd like to thank all of you

04:17for supporting us now and over the nearly last five years.

04:30Thanks to all the doggies that have sort of come in over the last few months, some surreptitiously,

04:36some maybe not so surreptitiously but it gives us great pleasure to, well it gives me

04:43great pleasure to try and find ales from awful corners of the UK, even the Isle of Wight.

04:51Chris Mainston, he's brought back Harveys this week. John McAvoy has brought back the Bathems.

04:59Dean's Electric Landlady, a big shout out to Dean and Jill as well.

05:03And of course 10.50s are our sort of marker dark ale of the pub and it stays that way 99% of the time.

05:12So apart from that I don't want to go on and on and on too much but there are some pasties

05:18coming up shortly. There's a few vegetarian stroke vegan pasties and then there's about

05:2360 meat pasties all the way from Bodmin. Rutland pasties we're calling them from Bodmin.
