Talked to Babe Loftenberg earlier, former Cowboy, now is on the, uh,
00:02
broad- I mean, doing color for them for 28 years on the broadcast.
00:06
Dak Prescott's contract is obviously a massive
00:08
conversation, as with any quarterback.
00:11
And, yeah, and he thinks they're gonna get it done. I think we could agree they're gonna get it done.
00:14
I think they'll get it done with Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb as well, because
00:17
oh, well, you know, Jarrah always wants to make sure he gets his guys paid,
00:21
and in the end, he'll negotiate, but then in the end, he's gonna make sure they get paid.
00:25
Uh, Dak,
00:27
I- look, it's always
00:29
Dak Prescott is a hard quarterback to read.
00:32
And the reason why I say that is because you see big numbers from him,
00:36
but yet we also see the big moments where he disappears.
00:38
He always is in the best spots, obviously, when
00:41
the Cowboys were able to- like,
00:43
when the Cowboys were at their best, and Dak was truly at his best,
00:46
and really put in a position to succeed,
00:48
that was peak Ezekiel Elliott,
00:50
and that was when they were running the football
00:53
more, like they promised
00:55
they would do now, but actually did it back then,
00:58
and he's thrown the ball 35 times a game or so, right?
01:00
Good, good spot.
01:01
When you start asking Dak to throw it 50-something times,
01:04
that's when the numbers drop, that's when the team loses,
01:06
that's when the problems happen, the mistakes happen,
01:09
the interceptions happen.
01:11
He's still set at just over 4,000 passing yards this year, 40, 50 and a half.
01:16
Yeah.
01:16
Minus 120 to the over.
01:17
I think he goes over, and I-
01:20
if you look at- I mean, passing touchdowns, 28 and a half,
01:23
I'll be honest with you, I'd take the over on that too, and here's why.
01:26
There's a lot of conversation about, not just his contract,
01:29
but obviously C.D. Lamb, right?
01:31
I think Zach- Zach.
01:33
I think Dak is going to do everything he can to help C.D. Lamb get paid,
01:37
and we saw the way the- after the first five or six games of last season,
01:40
C.D. Lamb went on an absolute tear.
01:42
We're talking double-digit receptions every single week, monster performances.
01:47
I think we see the same thing again this year from those two,
01:51
especially with, let's say, neither one of them.
01:52
If we're still sitting here and they're both-
01:54
we're talking about both their contracts,
01:56
then there's even more incentive for them to play well.
01:59
This is going to be a situation, I think, where he still puts up big numbers.
02:02
They have to throw the football.
02:03
I don't think they're as good as where they are last year,
02:05
but I do think he still puts up those big numbers because they have no choice.
02:08
Yeah, really good points right there, man.
02:09
And I've also, like, you know, Dak came into the league and was a winner right away.
02:14
They lose that playoff game to Green Bay, the Jared Cook catch game,
02:18
but like, man, that was his rookie season.
02:20
That was Zeke's rookie.
02:22
They were young and they found success right away.
02:25
And then there were some rough years there.
02:26
They make the coaching change.
02:28
They bring in Mike McCarthy.
02:29
And now, like, everybody's a lame duck, so I'm with you.
02:32
I would probably bet only overs, over 28 and a half touchdown passes, over yards.
02:36
I'm not going to run out and do that, but I wouldn't bet unders
02:38
because of what you said, man.
02:39
It's a contract year.
02:40
It's a prove-it year.
02:41
Dak wants that one last big deal.
02:43
And also, CeeDee Lamb is a top five, at least top 10 receiver in the league.
02:47
That list gets longer every year.
02:49
We got some dudes coming in now with neighbors and Marvin Harrison
02:52
who might take over early on.
02:53
But yeah, I expect both of those guys to ball out in a contract year.
02:57
But even if they put up numbers, I just, I don't know how good
02:59
Dallas is going to be this year.
03:01
I actually worry a little bit about that defense, man.
03:03
You lose your coordinator.
03:04
You know, the secondary, I know it was beat up last year, but...
03:07
They lost multiple pieces defensively, too.
03:09
Now, they weren't necessarily stars.
03:10
They couldn't stop the run.
03:11
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
03:12
But, but Dak should ball out this year.
03:14
And I think Dak is a really good regular season quarterback.
03:18
Yes, yes.
03:20
It's just like, man, but that playoff game, I finally bought into Dallas a little bit
03:23
because nobody beat him at home.
03:25
They were undefeated at home in the regular season.
03:27
Green Bay comes to town.
03:29
Jordan loves making his first start in the playoffs,
03:31
so you would expect there to be growing pains.
03:32
But it actually looked like Dak was the guy making his first playoff start.
03:36
In the second half, he padded the stats a little bit.
03:38
Jake Ferguson had four touchdowns to help him out.
03:40
But dude, he had those awful pick sixes, those interceptions in the first half.
03:44
And it was game over.
03:44
You spotted Green Bay a two-score, three-score lead with those bad decisions.
03:49
And you would expect the veteran at home to play much better than that.
03:52
And you would expect Jordan Love to make the mistakes in his first start.
03:56
He's pretty much a rookie, even though he's not a rookie.
03:58
So that's why I kind of have to be done with Dak and Dallas in the playoffs.
04:02
But as far as regular season numbers go, I would only bet overs, man.
04:05
He's a great regular season stat padder.
04:06
We know that.
04:07
Yeah.
04:07
Oh, 100 percent.
04:08
I'm not ragging on him.
04:10
A lot went wrong for Dallas in that game.
04:12
But yeah, he wasn't great.
04:13
Listen, it falls on the quarterback first.
04:16
It does.
04:17
That's really what it comes down to.
04:18
But we can have these conversations all we want about if a quarterback's going to get paid,
04:23
what he's going to get paid.
04:24
In the end, it happens.
04:25
It does.
04:25
For any quarterback in Dak's position, two is going to end up getting paid.
04:29
It doesn't matter at this point.
04:30
Because these teams know, if you don't have a quarterback, you have nothing.
04:35
That's how the NFL works.
04:36
It's just that simple.
04:37
I mean, there's a reason why some owners have actually suggested the possibility
04:42
of just having max contracts, like limits on what you pay quarterbacks,
04:45
because it's getting so out of control.
04:47
I don't think that's ever going to happen.
04:48
Good luck trying to get it to happen.
04:50
But they want that to.
04:51
But because the quarterback is so valuable, we're paying top 12, top 15 quarterbacks,
04:59
top two, top three quarterback money.
05:01
That's how it works.
05:02
But salary cap goes up.
05:04
Another quarterback gets paid more.
05:05
The market just continues.
05:06
It's inflation, like in this damn country right now, right?
05:08
It's just like everything's getting more expensive.
05:10
It's going to be the same thing with quarterbacks.
05:12
Yeah, that's why, like, if I'm Jordan Love, like I've said on the show multiple times,
05:15
I want to wait and see what Tua gets.
05:17
Because like Jordan Love already has a playoff win.
05:20
Tua has no playoff wins.
05:22
And I just want to keep resetting that market.
05:23
So I'd wait.
05:24
Get my 600 million.
05:27
It's almost crazy that we're talking about that number.
05:29
We're talking about Jordan Love making 600 million.
05:32
He could win an MVP.
05:33
I'm not saying that he can't.
05:34
Like, he was the real deal last year.
05:35
But we've seen him for one year.
05:36
And now he could be the highest paid quarterback in the league.
05:39
People were freaking out about Justin Herbert, Trevor Lawrence.
05:43
Oh, my God.
05:43
What has Trevor Lawrence ever done?
05:45
Well, like, when we look back at this in a year or two, it's probably going to be a discount
05:48
for the Jags.
05:49
Yes.
