00:00Meteorologist David Yeomans is here with the timeline and what we can expect,
00:03David. And this is after widespread tree damage in the city of Chicago and
00:07elsewhere last night. Tonight's storms could even look more populated on this
00:11map. Local storm reports show a tremendous amount of wind gusts,
00:15reports and wind damage last night. What you don't see plotted here yet. We
00:20just got word late this afternoon from the National Weather Service of a
00:23confirmed E F zero tornado out here in Elburn and two more E F zero weaker
00:29tornadoes on the south side. Those have not been plotted yet. We don't know
00:32the exact locations, but again, they were on the south side of Chicago and
00:36out in Elburn. Things are calm on the radar right now. Just a hot and humid
00:40day. But we have our first tornado warning now in eastern Iowa as this M
00:45C V. We call it mezzo scale convective vortex forms and races our way. This is
00:51going to interact with a tremendous amount of heat and humidity in the
00:54atmosphere. Storm energy is off the charts tonight, so this is going to
00:58translate to a pretty big severe weather event by anywhere's standards.
01:01Certainly here over the next several hours, not much happens. So your dinner
01:05plans are just a little sweaty. Your evening commute looks fine as well.
01:08Once we get toward eight p.m. No, here comes the main event, a solid line of
01:13incredibly strong thunderstorms racing into LaSalle and the Cal counties as
01:18early as eight after 9 10 p.m. These storms look at these purples and blacks.
01:23Those could be 80 to 85 mile per hour wind gusts and also have some embedded
01:29brief tornadoes anywhere on this line. Most likely in Chicago, about nine or
01:3310 o'clock as it looks right now. By 11 o'clock, the severe storm threat is
01:37highest in northwest Indiana. Then it races out of here. Later on tonight,
01:42we'll still have some rain and some rumbles of thunder as you're sleeping
01:45overnight like the past couple of nights. But the severe weather threat
01:48is really mainly from seven p.m. Until 11 p.m. Tonight. Not only are we
01:52concerned about widespread wind damage and serious tornadoes that could
01:55touch down in multiple areas, but also a rare flash flood threat rare because
02:00we're in the three out of four moderate shading that doesn't really happen very
02:05often around here unless a tropical system is involved. Speaking of
02:08tropics, this is the same flood threat that Houston had from Hurricane barrel
02:11and you saw how bad the flooding was and how widespread there last week. This is
02:16happening here because we could get several more inches of rain quickly
02:19tonight, but also mainly because we've had a half a foot of rain in some areas
02:23over the past several days, and this is only going to add to that waterlogged
02:26soil and cause flooding more quickly. So tonight be on the lookout for severe
02:30storms and heavy rain until about midnight tomorrow, though, looks
02:34finally a little calmer 86 not quite as hot as a northwest wind blows in mainly
02:39dry weather returns for the next couple days. Breezy winds ushering in cooler
02:43air as well. After a day in the nineties today, how about a high of 76
02:48and even cooler by the lake on Thursday plans this weekend, including
02:51the tacos and tamales festival in town. Always so much going on. Look great
02:56with temperatures in the lower eighties. In the meantime, Erica, of course, the
02:59first alert weather team will be here all evening and break into programming
03:03should the storms warranted. Yes, we know you will be on top of it, David.
03:06Thank you.
