00:07Biniam Girmay celebrated as he crossed the finish line,

00:10winning the 12th stage of the Tour de France.

00:13It marks the third victory in the competition for the 24-year-old Eritrean,

00:17who, on July 1st, became the first black African to win a Tour de France stage.

00:24And he's determined to secure even more wins.

00:27Since I started to wear this jersey,

00:30I don't know, somehow I felt just super fast, especially in my mind.

00:34I just believe I can prove I am the best.

00:39Girmay was born in Eritrea's capital city of Asmara.

00:43Like other cyclists in the country,

00:45he learned the sport on mountainous roads and at a high altitude.

00:48Asmara is located at over 2,300 metres above sea level.

00:53In 2015, when he saw Eritrean cyclist Daniel Teklehaimanot

00:57wear the coveted King of the Mountains jersey in the Tour de France,

01:00an award given to the best athlete over steep and tough climbs during the competition,

01:05Girmay started to believe he could make his dreams a reality.

01:08He now hopes to inspire other Eritreans.

01:15I'm still hoping to shine more and to give them more motivation.

01:22After the Tour de France, Girmay will focus on this year's Olympics.
