Tennis - Wimbledon 2024 - Elena Rybakina : "I will try not to think about the past and focus on the next match"

00:00Elena, back in the semi-finals at Wimbledon, you must be feeling good right now.
00:07Yeah, really happy to be in the semi-final and also the way I played today.
00:11So, looking forward for tomorrow's match.
00:14Elena, you're the only person left who's won this title.
00:18How much of an advantage do you think that will give you?
00:21Well, of course it gives some confidence, but at the same time, it's something which already passed.
00:28So, everybody wants to win, everybody's going to fight.
00:31So, I will try not to think about the past and just focus on the next match.
00:37How did it feel to be watched by Queen Camilla in the Royal Box today?
00:42Oh, wow. I didn't even see it, but that's amazing, of course.
00:49Hi, Elena. Zane from Quarter-Final, congrats on your win.
00:52You hit 28 winners today and you look to be in full flow.
00:55How are you feeling on the floor? How confident are you feeling right now?
00:58Yeah, I played really well.
01:00Today, maybe the serve percentage was not as high as the previous matches,
01:07but on the baseline, I was playing pretty well and felt the ball also good.
01:13So, pretty happy with the performance.
01:20In Paris, you talked about you having some issues with your sleep and that kind of thing.
01:24I just wondered, you seem to be playing so much better, look so much fresher.
01:27Has your sleep improved since then?
01:29Yeah, it did. Thanks.
01:33Alex?
01:34Hi, I'm Alex, I'm a person from the WTA.
01:36You've got a bubble with Craig Schieffer in the semi-finals.
01:39I wondered if you had any memories of your previous two matches,
01:42which were both lost in three sets.
01:45Yeah, lost in three sets.
01:47Once it was in Australia when we had the third set tie-break,
01:52it was super windy.
01:54One in Indore, Ostrava.
01:57She's a great player and I think she has really good hands.
02:03I didn't really saw yet against who she played here,
02:07but I think she's pretty confident, also playing doubles here.
02:12So, it's going to be a tough match for sure.
02:15Jumani?
02:17Congrats, Elena.
02:18I'm curious just how different do you feel to the person
02:20who made the semi-finals here for the first time two years ago,
02:24and what that felt like then?
02:26Well, back then, of course, I was not expecting to be that far in the draw.
02:33And now, with all the experience and with the time which passed,
02:38of course, I come and I want to be in this stage of the tournament.
02:42And, yeah, just much more experienced player for sure now
02:48and know what to do.
02:51But there is nerves every time you go on the court.
02:54This, of course, is still the same,
02:56but I think I'm managing much better than before.
03:00In what way do you know what to do, I guess?
03:03What exactly?
03:05Like, what has changed?
03:06What do you know now that you didn't know then?
03:08Well, I think it's just a little bit of everything
03:11and how to approach the matches,
03:15how to even do the maybe practices in between.
03:20I think it's a lot of things which comes all together.
03:24Willy?
03:25You spoke of the confidence Barbora has.
03:28How would you describe the confidence you have
03:30with the experience of having won here
03:33and with the way you're playing right now?
03:36Well, definitely I'm feeling pretty well on the court,
03:38especially the last three matches.
03:40I think I showed really good tennis,
03:42and sometimes serve can be off,
03:45but then the ground stroke really well I'm playing.
03:50So pretty confident, but as we all know,
03:54sometimes you wake up and something can happen.
03:57So hopefully nothing is going to happen tomorrow,
03:59but for sure I will try to stay focused
04:02and show the same tennis.
04:05What do you consider right now
04:07what you're doing that's most effective?
04:10I think staying really aggressive from the first shots
04:14and definitely I think my return improved return games.
04:21And yeah, the serve is helping,
04:24even though today maybe not as high percentage,
04:27but in important moments I served it out.
04:32Hi, Alina.
04:33With obviously coming into this year's semis
04:38as the overwhelming favorite,
04:40as any person to have won the tournament,
04:42how are you managing that pressure
04:45compared to how it was for you in 2022?
04:48Do you feel it much more?
04:50Well, I think it's only you guys telling me
04:55that I'm the only one left who won this tournament.
04:58I don't really think about it so much,
05:00but in 2022 I was definitely more nervous than now.
05:05It was first time for me to play on center court.
05:08It was a lot of people, a lot of attention.
05:10Now, of course, I got used to it a little bit
05:14and I'm taking these matches in a different way.
05:19Charlie.
05:20Alina, there was a period I think
05:22where you won 10 points on serve in a row.
05:24You were in a real rhythm.
05:26When you're in that kind of rhythm and sequence,
05:28are you even thinking
05:30or is it just so kind of instinctive and flow?
05:33I think it's more as a flow, of course.
05:38And if it's going,
05:41you don't want to really take much time in between.
05:44You want to continue.
05:45So I would say just flow more, yeah.
05:50Any further questions?
05:52Tomani.
05:53You said you've been through your returning.
05:55I'm just curious if you've done anything specific
05:57to change anything with your returning.
06:00Every time we change the surface,
06:03I talk with a coach where it's better to stay.
06:06Also depends on the opponent,
06:08how she serves, for example,
06:12and try to analyze in which moments where she goes
06:15and so on.
06:16Just try to read the toss also,
06:18these little details.
06:20I think now I'm picking up these things
06:23a little bit better than before.
06:26Any further questions?
06:29I know you're trying not to think about the past,
06:31but is there ever a point when you start thinking,
06:34oh, maybe I could actually win Wimbledon again?
06:37Well, of course, this is something I want to achieve
06:43and I want to do again.
06:45But it's getting closer,
06:48but still there is two matches
06:51and tough opponents left.
06:54So, again, it's just match by match
06:57and for now it was working well,
06:59so I'm trying to continue with this mentality.
