00:00Welcome to Venice Beach, California.

00:13It's Sunday, July 18th, 2021 and it's 75 Fahrenheit, 24 Celsius.

00:20It's 1145 in the morning and we're going to be walking the seaside area.

00:27It's a very hip place.

00:30We're at the intersection of Pacific Avenue and Windward Avenue.

00:34It's a lot of people riding their bikes and it's very active today being a Sunday morning.

00:42It's a nice little chill place here.

00:47People getting juices and snow ice, Cafe Collage.

01:01A little bit of history about Venice Beach.

01:03It was founded by Abbott Kinney in 1905 and it was an independent city until 1926 when

01:10it finally merged with Los Angeles.

01:13This city was originally called the Venice of America and Abbott Kinney developed it

01:19as a beach resort town.

01:22He and his partner, Francis Ryan, bought about two miles of oceanfront property right south

01:27of the Santa Monica area in 1891.

01:34The partnership dissolved, however, in 1904 and Kinney, who won the marshy land on the

01:39south end of the property in a coin flip with the former partners, built this city

01:48after the Italian city of the same name.

01:50So Venice Beach is named after Venice, Italy.

01:56There's also several canals which resemble the Venice in Italy, which we'll see later

02:01in this video, but this is the main entrance to the Venice Beach area.

02:08There's a lot of restaurants and people hanging out here.

02:15Also very colorful.

02:16A lot of creative people and artistic people hang out in the Venice Beach area.

02:24And it's bordered by the Ocean Park neighborhood just to the north of it, very close to Manhattan

02:31Beach and Santa Monica Beach.

02:39Santa Monica is right above Ocean Park.

02:42Manhattan Beach is further to the south of Venice Beach.

02:55Seems to be a pretty active day today.

03:00There's Teddy's Red Tacos, Tijuana-style beef birria tacos, which I know are very famous

03:07here in Los Angeles.

03:11I've even had a few birria tacos and I can concur, the birria tacos here are amazing.

03:20Take a look at this amazing mural, one of many that we'll see in Venice Beach, a touch

03:25of Venice.

03:30Here's Same Sun Venice Beach, Backpacker Hostel.

03:43And now we've entered the beachfront area.

03:46This is what Venice Beach is known for, all the beachfront stalls and shacks where people

03:54rent everything from like scooters, bicycles, surfboards, you can even buy suntan lotion

04:01and other souvenirs here.

04:04But this is all this main plaza area.

04:10Sounds like someone's performing over there.

04:14We're going to have a lot of that in Venice Beach as well, a lot of buskers, performers.

04:23There's a little kid over there with a great voice.

04:31First we're going to go over to the right-hand side, I want to show you a bunch of these

04:37shacks over here and then also show you the skate park.

04:43No, thank you.

04:49You can see there's tons of vendors and stalls around here, all from fresh fruit, musicians.

04:59I know there was also a big homeless problem here in Venice Beach, but Los Angeles City

05:06has been cleaning it up.

05:11It's not an easy issue to solve with the homelessness around Los Angeles.

05:17I wonder if we'll see any today because I know that they had a July 4th deadline to

05:22move people from Venice Beach.

05:26Here's the West Sidewalk Market.

05:37And look at this, there's even a building where you can go inside and get a lot of food

05:43and other stuff here.

05:47What's also very popular is to walk from Venice Beach to Santa Monica along this boardwalk

05:53and you'll see a lot of different stuff.

05:57This probably keeps going and going.

06:00Soft serve ice cream, La La Land Venice CBD products, Kids World, Venice souvenirs.

06:25There's vendors on either side.

06:29Some of them are selling their art, different things and then you have the ones over here

06:37with the storefronts.

06:39This place seems pretty busy, the Small World Books and Mystery Annex.

07:01If you go down these streets, you'll see a lot more residences and artwork on the side

07:07of these buildings.

07:08Like this one.

07:09It's like a hammerhead shark.

07:12They've got pre-rolls, marijuana on the wall there.

07:25Alright let's head off over here.

07:27I want to show you the actual beach.

07:42So this is only for bikes.

07:49I thought I was going to be able to walk over here but I guess we have to go this way on

07:56the beach itself towards the skate park.

08:00So let's do that.

08:21Beautiful palm trees.

08:24It's nice to see people here relaxing, having a good time.

08:50There's also public restrooms over to the right.

09:05People are out here rollerblading, enjoying their day.

09:14Right next to the skate park by the way is the public art area.

09:18We'll get to see that.

09:28It's not really well laid out over here, the pedestrian lane and the bike lane.

09:39Oh this is the Skate Dance Plaza.

09:43That's what it's called.

09:50Awesome to see people hanging out over here doing tricks and just having fun in general.

10:08Alright let's cross over and we'll take a look at the skateboard park.

10:15No scooters and no bicycles allowed at the skate park.

10:39It looks well organized and very clean.

11:34Wow people are so talented here.

11:51Let's get going.

11:52Now I'll show you the public art area of Venice Beach.

12:18Some of these artworks are very strange and some even look like they've been graffitied over.

12:38All these palm trees, they have different artworks on them.

12:51Looks like they're even being redone right now.

12:56They're constantly being painted over.

13:10It's very cool to see that, how they do everything.

13:21Alright well that was pretty cool to see the public art area.

13:28The beach itself we'll see later with the water.

13:50Let's make sure we can get over to the beach from this side.

13:53I see someone bringing in a surfboard.

14:09This is a really neat sculpture.

14:13There's also two people there doing some martial arts.

14:43Let's go over to the other side.

15:12Alright let's show the actual beach.

15:31It's a nice playground here.

15:33Great cycling path as well.

15:41Over here is the police department station.

16:03Take a look at this view of the palm trees.

16:06It's gorgeous.

16:27There's another art installation over there which is very very nice.

16:57This place looks pretty cool.

17:07Empanadas and coffee close on Tuesdays.

17:12There's a fish taco place here for $2.75 plus tax for a fish taco.

17:20I wonder what kind of fish they use.

17:25Fish and chips $10.95, watermelon juice, strawberry juice.

17:30They've got a lot of stuff.

17:53Great to see the basketball courts here being used.

18:01Over here we've got make ways.

18:07Venice.

18:09If you want to get your LA souvenirs, you can.

18:13Or maybe if you want to get David's booty shorts, you're able to.

18:19That's a neat looking sculpture.

18:27Wow, funnel cakes and churros.

18:30Also corn dogs.

18:38There's the Venice Beach Athletic Center.

18:47This area looks like it's completely closed, but this is the Muscle Beach area.

18:54The Joe Welder, the father of bodybuilding.

18:58Or maybe they just do this for competition, I'm not sure.

20:05It really seems like this Venice Beach trip goes on for a long while.

20:19Definitely feels like a little bit more hip and artistic compared to the other beaches that I've been to in Los Angeles.

20:31Compared to Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, this is completely different.

20:39Every beach has its own kind of style.

20:43There's custom t-shirts.

20:46There's even some anime characters on it, Supreme.

20:52I guess it has to be Supreme imitation, but it works.

21:10So this is the public parking area for Venice Beach.

22:14Over here is the entrance to North Venice Boulevard.

22:20And this starts the residential quiet zone of Venice Beach.

22:25So no more stalls over here.

22:28It's all homes and residences.

22:36Completely different vibe than down there where all the commercial activity is.

23:34I think on the next block, I'll make a left and we'll head over to the Pacific Avenue area.

24:03I'd also like to see the Venice Canals.

24:09Probably that's where I'll end the video.

24:33Alright, here's 23rd Avenue.

25:03The Speedway.

25:21This is really interesting.

25:30This really reminds me of Manhattan Beach with all the courts going through the homes.

25:40Beautiful tree.

25:58It's hard to see where things are sometimes because homeowners erected these tall fences.

26:28Those are different cones I've never seen before.

26:43Alright, so this is the main street of the area, Pacific Avenue.

26:53Let's cross over to the other side because there's no sidewalk here.

27:02Beautiful tree-lined walk we went through.

27:06You don't even know it's there unless you live there, I guess.

27:27There's the other side of Venice Beach that you don't really see.

27:57All these homes have different styles to them.

28:12Some are stone, some are wood, different colors.

28:17And each one of these tree-lined paths are decorated a little bit differently.

28:24I really like the emoji over there at the top of that lamppost.

28:53There's the local bus, number one.

29:22I believe the public access to the Venice Canals is coming soon.

29:32Well, maybe this is it. Yes, it's right here.

29:35You don't even know.

29:40This is cool.

29:45So this is the public path to get down to the Venice Canals.

29:49It really looks like a crooked street here to get down here.

30:04It will take a shortcut going down here, but this is more fun going this way.

30:20Taking the long way around.

31:01Here's the public access to the canals.

31:03It's hidden, as you can see.

31:06You'd only know about this if you look it up on a map.

31:14This is gorgeous.

31:21Here it is, Venice Canals Public Access.

31:30This is unbelievable, to say the least.

31:37Wow.

31:42It does really resemble Venice in Italy.

31:55What about the other side? How does this look?

32:19Here's another view of the bridge.

32:38Wow, you can easily get lost in here and not know your way out.

32:44There's many different kinds of bridges, too.

32:48And the water is very shallow.

33:09Okay, so there's no more canals this way.

33:11Oh, there are.

33:35Wow, incredible.

33:48Maybe we'll go up to the other canal over there, and we'll end this video.

34:01I'm sure there's a lot of tourists who don't even know about the Venice Canals and Venice Beach, California,

34:07and they'll just go to the beachfront and think that's all Venice Beach.
