00:00The Department of Agriculture is planning to increase the number of Kadiwa Stores that are selling 29 pesos per kilo of rice.

00:07But for a group, this is just a temporary solution.

00:15Since this morning, people came to the Kadiwa Stores of Bureau of Animal Industry in Visayas Avenue, Quezon City

00:22to buy 29 pesos per kilo of well-milled rice from the National Food Authority.

00:27It started selling yesterday to 4-Piece members, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and single mothers.

00:47Aside from Visayas Avenue, Champang Kadiwa Stores in Metro Manila and San Jose del Monte, Bulacan

00:52are selling 29 pesos per kilo of rice on Fridays to Sundays.

00:57It's a big thing.

00:58What you can save in our store is only P50.

01:03How much can you save? P25.

01:07That's what I want to save for a long time.

01:10So that, somehow, we can make ends meet.

01:15In the market, like the Commonwealth Market in Quezon City,

01:18well-milled rice is sold for P48 to P50 per kilo, just like what is sold in Kadiwa Stores.

01:24According to the rice retailer, they can't afford the price of Kadiwa.

01:29I hope the price of Kadiwa will drop to P29.

01:31But if there's a market like that, and they can sell it to us,

01:35it's good because there will be more people.

01:57But the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food Incorporated is in doubt

02:01if the P29 rice program can continue.

02:05Maybe I'm just having wrong expectations of people that the stock of rice will be sustainable.

02:17Unless the government really has to shoulder the losses.

02:23Because that rice was probably bought for P50 to P55.

02:29But the DA is against the program.

02:32Our NFA regularly buys rice.

02:36So we can say that it's sustainable

02:38because as long as the buffer stock doesn't move, they will really sell it.

02:44According to the Philippine Chamber of Agriculture and Food Incorporated,

02:47this is just a temporary solution.

02:49The long-term solution is to strengthen the agricultural sector and support farmers.

02:57This does not help in lowering the price of regular meals and well-being rice.

03:04It's better to give the tariff that can be collected to our farmers.
