General Election Results 2024: Your Leeds MPs

We take a look at the Leeds MPs elected at the General Election 2024.

00:08at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Middleton, which is where the local count's been happening

00:13as part of this year's general election. We found out the winners in all seven seats across

00:18Leeds and the picture mostly reflected what's happened across the country. It was a clean

00:24sweep for Labour across the board. Let's take a look at some of the results in detail. In

00:30Leeds Central and Headingley, the winner was Alex Sobel, who was re-elected with a significant

00:35majority. His runner-up was Chris Foran of the Green Party. In Leeds East, Richard Bergen

00:41had more than double the number of votes that his Reform UK rival had, and that was David

00:47Dresser. In Leeds North East, Fabian Hamilton was re-elected with a significant majority

00:53and his rival was Chris Whiteside. The runner-up was the Conservative candidate. In Leeds North

01:00West, Katie White, a newcomer Labour MP, was elected in that seat. The runner-up was Thomas

01:07Avere, a Conservative. In Leeds South, Hilary Benn was re-elected, followed by Ed Carlyle,

01:14the Green Party candidate. In Leeds South West and Morley, Mark Stewart, the Labour

01:20candidate, was elected, toppling Conservative MP Andrea Jenkins, who had held the seat since

01:262015. And Rachel Reeves, the Shadow Chancellor, won in Leeds West and Pudsey and spoke about

01:33some of the challenges that she now faces in her new role.

01:37To tackle the cost of living crisis and make work pay. To rebuild our health service and

01:42our schools. To drive growth in every part of our great country and to restore the stability

01:47that Britain has sorely lacked for too long. But I know that the road ahead will not be

01:53easy. There are no quick fixes and the hard choices lie ahead. We are under no illusions

02:00about the scale of the challenge that we face or about the severity of the challenges that

02:07we will inherit from the Conservatives. It will come with a great weight of responsibility.

02:14I embrace it. It will demand hard work and harder choices. I am ready for them. And to

02:21those of you who have put your trust in us, we will not squander that trust. We have set

02:28out the first steps that we will take towards a better Britain and the missions to underpin

02:32a decade of national renewal. There is much to do. We have campaigned as we mean to go

02:38on. As a government of unity, not of division. A government of wealth creation and a government

02:45in the national interest. Country first, party second. That is our promise to Britain. That

02:52is my promise to the people of Leeds West and Pudsey. We will not let you down. I will

02:59not let you down.
