Declaration of result of poll for the election of a Member of Parliament for Truro and Falmouth
00:13
on Thursday 4 July 2024. I, Kate Kenally, being the Acting Returning Officer at the
00:20
above election, do hereby give notice that the number of votes recorded for each candidate
00:26
at the said election is as follows. Ruth Helen Ripper, Liberal Democrats, 6,552. Jane Susanna
00:41

01:32
a total of 163 ballot papers. The ballot papers issued was 50,444 with a turnout of 69%. And
01:42
I do hereby declare that Jane Susanna Kirkham is duly elected as Member of Parliament for
01:50
Truro and Falmouth.
02:09
Thank you. There's a lot of people to thank, of course. I'd like to thank the Returning
02:14
Officer, everybody who has come here to count tonight. You've done a fantastic job. Everybody
02:21
who's helped with my campaign, my fantastic campaign team. We've run a very long and difficult
02:28
campaign, so it's been brilliant. And my agent, Jude. And also my son, who is here, who without
02:35
whom I would not have been able to do any of this. I want to thank my fellow candidates.
02:42
It's been a good and clean and fair race, I think. And the outgoing MP, Sherilyn McCrory,
02:49
who's worked so hard for Truro and Falmouth. The voters have put their trust in me. People
02:57
who haven't voted Labour before have put their trust in us. And I promise those who didn't
03:03
vote for us and me that I will work for everyone in Truro and Falmouth as a voice for all of
03:10
our community up in Westminster. Thank you for putting your trust in the Labour Party.
03:20
Falmouth and Truro and Cornwall, indeed, have so much potential and so much to offer the
03:27
rest of the country. We are a creative, innovative place and our vision of the green economy
03:34
could be so important to the rest of the country. But there's also so much to do here.
03:40
We have huge challenges. People have told me on the doorstep, and I know through a number
03:46
of years of being a councillor, there are big issues with housing, with NHS, with dentistry,
03:52
the cost of living, environment, our water and low wages. These are the things that you've
03:58
told me that need fixing and what your priorities are. The scale of the challenges here are large.
04:06
There are no magic wands. These things will take time. But as a Labour MP, as part of a
04:13
Labour government, I can work to ensure that Truro and Falmouth and Cornwall will have a strong
04:20
part to play in a bright future for our country. We've had enough of chaotic politics.
04:28
It's now a time for serious government to deliver for and to serve the people that we represent
04:35
and rebuild the country and Truro and Falmouth together.
04:40
It's time to get on with the job that you sent me to Westminster to do. Thank you.
