Britain's main opposition Labour party is set to sweep to a "landslide" election win, analysts say, after exit polls predicted the right-wing Conservatives scored a record low number of seats in an end to 14 years of Tory rule.

00:00I mean it is a landslide Labour victory and it is a disaster for the
00:04Conservatives. The Conservative Party, which is the world's most durable
00:09political party in many ways, has got its lowest seat share, it would appear, if the
00:14polls are finally correct, lowest seat share in any election since the party
00:19came into its modern form. So it's a remarkable defeat. Having said that,
00:24given how much worse it could have been, and some of the opinion polls have
00:28suggested it could be worse, they'll probably think staying with 130 or so
00:32seats is not the worst it could have been. So it's very bad but not quite as
00:38bad as their worst fears. I think they need to hit the ground running. There's a
00:41huge amount of disillusionment with politics in general and that is at the
00:46moment directed at the Conservative Party. But Labour won't be able to rest
00:49on its laurels for very long. It won't take long for them to become the subject
00:54or the actor that's responsible for low incomes, for high taxation and the
01:00lack of change. So I think that they really need to get started on that. I
01:03think they're aware of that, if that's any help, it's whether or not they're
01:07able to action their plans.
