00:00Following the launch of a new club shop at Black Cat House with a new Hummel kit on sale
00:07to supporters inside of it, those on weir side have been well appeased ahead of pre-season.
00:12At the Academy of Light, new head coach Regis Le Brie oversaw his squad loosen up in front
00:17of the cameras. Newly professional Chris Rigg was on show, along with fan favourites Dan
00:22Neil and Luke O'Nian. The lifespan of a Sunderland head coach is not very long, with Le Brie
00:28being the 16th permanent head coach at the club since 2010. He does, however, come from
00:33several years working with youth teams in France at Rennes and Lorient. Given Sunderland's
00:38emphasis on young talent, it should be a fitting appointment.
00:43I knew that there were interests about coaches who are able to develop the young players
00:51to develop the team. I think I was searching for this kind of vision, this kind of organisation
01:01to be able to improve a team. It's really a way of thinking. You can buy many players
01:11and put on the pitch and the talent will solve everything. But in France, where I was at
01:18Rennes and Lorient, my ideas as a club was always about development. For 20 years, I've
01:31been this kind of coach.
01:33Some of Sunderland's star men, such as Jack Clark and Joe Bellingham, were also put through
01:37their paces during training. They themselves are still young in age and Le Brie made clear
01:43that togetherness and development would see the club going in the right direction.
01:47The process, I think. The result is always uncertain. So if we focus on the development
01:57of the work, of the team, of the link we have together, on the vision, it's the best way
02:04to obtain the best result as possible.
02:08Finally, given expectations on rear side, Le Brie spoke of his experiences of the supporters
02:13in France and how this will prepare him for the Stadium of Light being in full flow and
02:18how it can be a benefit to him and his players.
02:21At Lens, for example, you know Lens or Marseille, these two clubs, when the fans are really
02:31connected with the team, really connected with the club also, they believe in the way
02:38of playing. They can provide a high level of energy to the team and the opponent can
02:46feel it, really. In the balance of power, in the game, it could make a difference. So
02:53I hope we will use this energy for the team.
