Lisa Millar announces departure from ABC News Breakfast

ABC News Breakfast co-host Lisa Millar announces that she’ll leave her live TV role in August 2024.

00:00I wanted it a little cosy, I wanted you guys here because I do have a bit of news for you.

00:05After five years of sharing this couch with awesome people and people behind the scenes as well,

00:12it is time to say farewell. I'm going to be moving full-time over to the content division of the ABC

00:19where I'm going to be having more adventures with backroads and mustardogs. The mustardogs,

00:25it just keeps getting bigger and bigger. There's so much to do and exciting new projects,

00:30that means it's goodbye. You've got me for a little while longer though.

00:34I just also, and there'll be plenty of times to say the thank yous, but Michael,

00:39thank you for helping me with the transition to breakfast television and for the rest of you gang,

00:45oh for all the laughs and everyone who's behind the scenes as well.

00:48And for our fabulous guests like Dan, you are fantastic. Don't you start crying.

00:54I'll come to you in a moment. You'll be missed by so many news breakfast viewers,

01:00but it's a big win for the ABC in that you can focus much more squarely on mustardogs

01:04and backroads. Incredible programs, but lots more to be said between now and August 23rd.

01:10I'm here for another seven weeks or so, I think. So August 23rd is my last day.

01:17Very exciting news. I'm absolutely thrilled and grateful for the privilege of having been here

01:22and all the excitement that is ahead. Can you cope, Nate?

01:25I did not forecast this. I'm not sure if it's allowed to happen. Therefore,

01:31we'll see. Mila, look, congratulations, but not happy. I'm happy for you though.

02:15Well, there's a lot going on. I wanted to wrap up, but I did just want to say really quickly,

02:18and I know we'll have a lot of time for this, that we met five years ago, but I've been an

02:22admirer of your work for many, many years before then as a foreign correspondent on my screen for

02:27ages. And you're just so brilliant at finding and telling cracking yarns. So we're going to miss

02:33you on the couch, but I know how much joy you're going to bring to so many people in the other

02:37stories you tell. So thank you for being here and for being such a wonderful co-pilot when I'm here

02:42for five minutes every week. It's been a joy to work with you.
