00:02What is the Welsh Government doing to protect the historic environment of Wales?

00:08When the Historic Environment Wales Act 2023 comes into force later this year, Wales will

00:13have the most progressive legislation for the management and protection of the historic

00:18environment in the UK. This is supplemented by planning policies that protect the unique

00:23characteristics of our historic environment.

00:26Thank you very much for your answer, Cabinet Secretary. As you are well aware, my constituency

00:29of Brecon and Radnorshireóthere are proposals by Bute Energy and GreenGen Cymru to put wind

00:34farms and pylons right the way through my constituency. This is going to have a massive

00:39effect on the historic environment in my constituency, and I'm very interested to know what the Welsh

00:44Government are going to do to ensure that the historic environment of Brecon and Radnorshire

00:48is protected from these large-scale developments in my constituency.

00:53Thank you. Well, it would be inappropriate for me, Deputy Presiding Officer, to comment

00:56on specific proposals. As you know, Welsh Ministers determine applications should be

01:02approved or not. But I think what is really important, as I say, is we have the most progressive

01:07legislation in this area. It will come into force in the autumn, and I think it will provide

01:13us with accessible bilingual law for our unique historic environment, supported by a range

01:20of secondary legislation. Planning Policy Wales also requires the planning system to

01:25take account of our objectivesóprotect, conserve, promote and enhance the historic environment.
