00:27The charges stem from allegations of exploiting domestic workers at their villa in Switzerland.

00:34The Hinduja family, whose vast fortune exceeds $47 billion, faced accusations of egregious

00:42misconduct.

00:43Prosecutors claimed they bought servants from India, employed them illegally without proper

00:50documentation and subjected them to brutal working conditions, allegedly up to 18 hours

00:57a day, for wages far below Swiss legal standards.

01:02Geneva prosecutor Yves Bertosa did not mince words, condemning the Hindujas for what he

01:09termed as profiting from the suffering of vulnerable individuals.

01:15He highlighted that the wages paid were less than what the family reportedly spent on their

01:20pet dogs.

01:22In their defence, the Hindujas, absent from court due to health reasons, vehemently denied

01:28the charges.

01:29Their legal team argued that the workers were not coerced into servitude, asserting they

01:36were free to leave the villa.

01:38They also suggested that the workers were appreciative of the opportunities provided

01:43by the family.

01:44Prakash Hinduja, a Swiss citizen since 2000, is part of the Hinduja group, a sprawling

01:51multinational conglomerate involved in diverse sectors including oil, banking, IT, cyber

01:57security, healthcare, real estate and media.

02:01His elder brother Gopichand manages the group's affairs from London, while younger brother

02:07Ashok oversees their interests in India.

02:11As the Hindujas expressed disappointment with the verdict and vowed to appeal, this
