00:05A little car on the outside there, I don't think that was getting too much of Hamilton's way,

00:09Yuki Tsunoda was that guy, crosses the line, it's a 1.15.0, goes three tenths ahead of Pierre Gasly

00:15who's the other driver with a lap time so far, Lando Norris is on a flyer currently approaching

00:20turn 12. I see Norris quite with Flovis on the rear which is unusual. Okay, how's the balance

00:26going? The car is limous, the exit is still a weird understeer mid-corner, this car doesn't bite.

00:41So what's that, a lack of mechanical grip, lack of aero grip? Yeah, I mean this is the thing,

00:48you can see there, watch his hands here, look, he's turning the wheel,

00:51a bit of adjustment then gets the lock on, it doesn't look like there's a car sticking to the

00:57road, you know, at no point on this lap has it looked like Verstappen's got the confidence to

01:03really attack the corners. If anything it looks like he's got more of those problems going through

01:10the slower speed elements of the track, corners like turn 5 and turn 12. To a lesser degree to

01:15be fair on the Mercedes, but Russell, he was saying earlier on how he's really attacking because

01:21he can sniff a victory in this car now and he's driving harder than ever before, he's backed out

01:26of this lap but that exit of turn 10 once again proves to me what he said earlier on, I am on a

01:32mission to win, you give me the car that can do it and I'm going to give everything I have. This

01:38is turn 7, dropping downhill, let's see as he turns in, always understeering the way in, snaps

01:44to oversteer exactly like that and that would have given him a spike in the rear tyre temp, right?

01:50Then you're putting a lot of energy through 9, watch this as he gets on that kerb, so the tyre

01:55temp stays high and then when he got to the next one at 10, that's when we see a big snap of oversteer

02:00when he put the power down. George Russell, pole position in Canada of course, three laps from the

02:04end, got past Lewis Hamilton to go back into the podium places. Oscar, we're boxed this lap, boxed

02:09this lap, we've got a data issue, so we're boxed this lap back in the garage. Copy, boxed.

02:17Three cars out on the track at the moment, Logan Sargents, Alex Albon and Oscar Piastri,

02:23who's just been called back in to his McLaren garage, they've got a data issue. Alex Albon

02:29has gone sixth fastest on his soft tyre run, Logan Sargents currently eighth fastest.

02:36Science making his way to where, where the chicane used to be but now, is it flat?

02:43Slightly missed the apex there a little bit, I think it was a bit of a lift but he's slightly

02:47wide, 13.2, so that's a good chunk quicker than, obviously Albon's the only referee, so we haven't

02:54seen any other heavy hitters. We did see, I did see that front wing get changed from

02:58Staffan as soon as he came into the pit lane, so he is not on a different step from what he

03:02could be in the bike. Just to pick up on you mentioning Aston Martin,

03:05obviously Lance Stroll down in front.

03:10Can you tell me who was the driver, racing booth?

03:13It was, no surprise.

03:20Losing out, yeah, gradually as he goes through this lap to Hamilton, so he's got no traffic in

03:25front, he should have a good clean run for the last couple of corners, can the tyres hang on

03:30for the final corner, look at the bottom of the car, touching there, a little bit wide I thought,

03:35but up to the line, no, last sector, so he's taken too much out of the tyre in the first

03:40two thirds of the lap. He's not going to give up, nonetheless, through turn 12 he goes, on power as

03:46early as you dare through that one, because that carries the speed through this penultimate corner,

03:50grab a bit of extra tarmac on the left hand side and over the kerb and then again through the final

03:54corner, and that's a lap of this incredibly quick racetrack. And a 1.13.2, four tenths

04:01off the pace though, he still has that pace, Lewis Hamilton, and he has lost half a second

04:08on this lap in the middle sector alone.

04:10Everyone's done a soft tyre run and has a time on the board, apart from Sergio Pérez, that will change now as he crosses the line, 13th fastest for Sergio Pérez, doesn't quite scrape into the 1.13.8 off the pace.

04:34I do therefore have the possibility to overtake.

04:37I've got to shoot to the paddock on it, so before I go, just look at the gaps, Toppy.

04:4216 cars within a second, RBs, but they've been a bit disappointed with their updates this weekend,

04:47Aston also only 14th and 18th, and Williams, last year they struggled around here, as I was saying

04:53at the top of the session, as Verstappen goes deep, the turn one goes around those bollards.

04:58Verstappen gets rid of those medium tyres, here's Lewis Hamilton now.

05:01He's expecting the car to actually sort of rotate and snap a bit more earlier, but the

05:12understeer caught him out actually, no harm done, but it's interesting, he was expecting

05:19a different balance in the car there, as we ride on board with Norris there out of turn

05:23six, seven and eight into nine, and over the kerb, big time.

05:29I hit the floor pretty hard.

05:31Okay, understood.

05:34You see in the background there, yeah, oh, that was a nasty one as well.

05:38So he's going to feel that, but in terms of the car, he picked up a penalty, didn't he,

05:44did Yuki Tsunoda, for an overtaking move that didn't quite stick and finished out of the points

05:52with that penalty here last year.

05:54I was talking to Lauren Mekis, his team boss.

05:56Frost on the rotation sucks.

06:01We very much appreciate some of the feedback that Yuki gives the team,

06:05but as you said, you know what, he's doing such an excellent job for us this year.

06:09Consistent and calm and has really matured into the role for this season,

06:14could not have had more praise for his driving.

06:16Lewis Hamilton with the fastest lap and just 22 thousandths of a second,

06:22so separating him and Carlos Sainz.

06:2555 thousandths of a second separating Lewis and Lando.

06:29Pierre Gasly with maybe a surprise fourth place,

06:32but R. Alpine on the pace this weekend with Esteban Ocon down in ninth.

06:38Max Verstappen only fifth and not really very happy with the handling of his car.

06:42Charles Leclerc, three tenths off the pace,

06:44six fastest ahead of Oscar Piastri.

06:47George Russell and Valtteri Bottas completing the top ten.

06:50We had no yellow flags, no red flags, no one going off the circuits too much.

06:55It was a fairly standard session for Aston Martin.

06:59Maybe a disappointing session for them.

07:0014th and 18th for Alonso and for Stroll.

07:03Sergio Perez only 13th.

07:05He's got a three-place grid penalty for the weekend.

07:07And 1.8 seconds separating Hamilton and Sargent, first down to 20th.
