00:10Experts are now calling it Lociceratops rangiformis, and while it might have a lot in common with
00:14its Triceratops cousins, this reconstruction of the Cretaceous period dinosaur reveals
00:19that its horns are wild.
00:21It's one of the biggest in its family of dinosaurs to ever lumber around prehistoric Earth, and
00:25if its name rings a bell, Lociceratops, that's because he was named after the Marvel character
00:29Loki, known for wearing a helmet adorned with gigantic horns.
00:33Lociceratops was massive, measuring around 22 feet in length, with a head stretching
00:38six and a half feet across.
00:39It also weighed upwards of 11,000 pounds.
00:42The creature lived some 78 million years ago, and unbelievably, paleontologists were able
00:47to find most of the animal's skull bones, allowing them to recreate it in all its horned
00:51glory, with the researchers saying, quote, these skull ornaments are one of the keys
00:55to unlocking horned dinosaur diversity and demonstrate that evolutionary selection for
00:59showy displays contributed to the dizzying richness of Cretaceous ecosystems.
