00:00Coach, your thoughts on some of the shot selections from the batters, especially Gurbaz up against
00:14Bumrah and overall the batting effort?
00:18Yeah, obviously disappointed with a few of the shots or the decision making.
00:24Obviously Bumrah is going to be a key bowler for any side, so for India he's crucial and
00:28we needed to play him better.
00:30These figures suggest we didn't play him very well, we'd obviously spoken about it and how
00:34we were going to play him, so we weren't able to execute that and yeah that's very disappointing
00:38and I know there are a lot of, or a few batters or most of them are thinking they could have
00:42done a bit better with their decision making but also execution.
00:46Jonathan, Rashid was your main bowler and he lived up to the expectation, but your thoughts
00:57on his bowling, what he did right?
00:59And apart from that he finished his quota by 14th over, you think he was not bowling
01:04in the most difficult overs?
01:07I think it's important when you have a hunch and you want to attack and you bowl three
01:13overs for 26, I think no matter when you bowl you've done a good job.
01:16So whenever Rash bowls, whenever Rash turns the game around like he did for us today,
01:20I think it's brilliant.
01:22It's not just one bowler, other people have to bowl the 16 other overs to be bowled and
01:28it's the responsibility of other bowlers to be able to execute the plans that we put in
01:31place which is crucial, especially on a pitch like this where we can set ourselves something
01:36that's attainable.
01:38So I thought Rash bowled brilliantly today and he has high expectations of himself and
01:45he delivered today.
01:46Everybody else could follow suit, that would be great.
01:52Good afternoon Jonathan, I think you kind of touched upon that yourself as well but
02:03I just wanted you to, if you could expand, don't you think when it comes to purely taking
02:07wickets the side probably depends a bit too much on Fazil and Rashid, don't you think
02:13the others need to chip in as well in terms of wicket taking?
02:17Well, wicket taking I think and certainly in T20 and on these types of wickets comes
02:21from creating pressure.
02:24So you need to find a way to create pressure or a way to sort of not get hurt on types
02:29of wickets like this where there's a short boundary and with the wind.
02:33So you need to be able to execute and get yourselves, if you're not getting wickets
02:37you're not leaking for too many runs.
02:39So for me we just weren't able to do that, we were a little bit in between and then the
02:44plans that we did have we weren't able to execute which releases the pressure on the
02:49Indian batsmen.
02:50I thought the way that Shreyakumar played was very good.
02:56We needed somebody to play that type of innings and we didn't have anybody to come in and
03:01do that.
03:02Jonathan, as he had asked earlier about Rashid completing his spell a little early, did that
03:10have a lot to do with Suryakumar going the way he was going and you had to bowl your
03:15best bowler at that time?
03:19Look, I think when the captain decides when he bowls, I don't have a problem with the
03:24way that Rashid finished and when he did.
03:27If he had taken another wicket or if he had got Pandey out last ball, we would be sitting
03:31here saying it's a masterstroke.
03:32So I think hindsight is a fantastic thing.
03:34I don't think Rashid finishing the game or finishing his bowling in the 14th over is
03:40the problem why we lost the game.
03:41Was it because the two batsmen were going better than the Indians?
03:46No, I'm just saying.
03:47I'm saying it's not the reason why Rashid finished in the 14th.
03:50There's other 16 overs where people have got to bowl better.
03:53So I've absolutely no qualms and yeah, that's my answer.
04:01Jonathan, we all know that Rashid Khan is a brilliant spinner.
04:05Do you want Rashid to do the press?
04:07No, no.
04:08I have a question for you about Rashid Khan and it just happens that he happens to be
04:14here.
04:16But what in your opinion makes Rashid Khan a genius and a brilliant spinner?
04:24How would you dissect out his brilliance?
04:26How long we got?
04:30I think with all great players, that's a lot of the time it's what they do off the field
04:36that's not in front of the cameras and the way they conduct themselves and obviously
04:40Rashid is sitting here and he won't mind me saying but setting high standards for themselves
04:43that take others with them and inspire other people and work ethic, desire, ability to
04:52listen and learn and always wanting to grow and discover, try new deliveries and push
04:58the boundaries on your own game.
05:00Sometimes I think as players and at times I was maybe like this as a player.
05:04You try and hold on to what you have and you don't want to grow as a player.
05:07You try and protect what you've got.
05:10I wish I had pushed myself with regards to testing my game and pushing the boundaries
05:15on what I could achieve as a player.
05:17I think Rashid sets a great example for that for all younger players, not only in Afghanistan
05:21but around the world and in India and the IPL and across the globe.
05:24So that's all I can say really and he bowls pretty well as well.
05:30Jonathan, how would you assess the pitch here at Cairns in Genova?
05:34I think it played a little bit better than we'd seen previous games.
05:37I thought the bounce was a little bit more consistent for the seamers but obviously in
05:41Caribbean style you'd want to see a little bit more pace on the pitch.
05:45But that's the characteristics of the West Indies and we've got to adjust to that.
05:49We go to St Vincent's now and I'm sure that we've seen the pitch there and I presume it
05:53will be a little bit similar.
05:56But that's the World Cup.
05:57You've got to turn up and play on what you're given and you've got to beat the other side
06:02on the conditions that you're presented with.
06:04We've got to do that against Australia in two days' time and I fully believe we can
06:08do that.
06:11As long as we learn from today and we apply ourselves better in the areas that we've discussed
06:17and we execute better.
06:19Thank you so much, coach.
