Donald Sutherland, known for his roles in such films as 'M*A*S*H,' 'Ordinary People' and 'The Hunger Games,' has died. He was 88. The actor who worked six decades in Hollywood died Thursday in Miami after a long illness. One of his five children, actor Kiefer Sutherland, wrote on social media, "With a heavy heart, I tell you that my father, Donald Sutherland, has passed away. I personally think one of the most important actors in the history of film. Never daunted by a role, good, bad or ugly. He loved what he did and did what he loved, and one can never ask for more than that. A life well lived."

00:34Remarkably, Sutherland was never nominated for a competitive Oscar,
00:38though the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made up for the oversight
00:41by giving him an honorary Oscar in November 2017 at the Governor's Awards.
00:46He won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his performance in the 1995 HBO telefilm Citizen X.
00:52He also received a Globe for his role in the 2002 HBO miniseries Path to War.
00:57His early film work includes 1965's Dr. Terror's House of Horrors,
01:011967's The Dirty Dozen and 1968's The Split.
01:05Then, Sutherland's turn as the irreverent, martini-loving Hawkeye in 1970's M.A.S.H.
01:10brought him international stardom at age 35.
01:13Taking a different tack, Sutherland was empathetic as a suburban Chicago lawyer
01:17trying to hold his family together in 1980's Ordinary People.
01:21As for his role as the villainous President Snow in 2012's The Hunger Games,
01:25Sutherland pursued the part after his agent sent him the script.
01:28He would return for all three sequels.
