00:00Welcome to Mojo Plays, and today we're taking a look at the 10 biggest changes and improvements
00:15made in Sea of Thieves since launch.
00:28Before we begin, we publish new videos all week long, so be sure to subscribe to Mojo
00:33Plays and ring the bell to be notified about our latest videos.
00:37A Proper Tutorial
00:46One of the biggest problems when Sea of Thieves initially released in 2018 was how it kind
00:51of threw you into its world with no sense of direction.
00:54You were just told what the controls were and left to figure things out on your own.
00:59Sea of Thieves is no longer this ambiguous.
01:17Upon starting the game, you now have the option to play through a quick tutorial before venturing
01:22out into the open seas.
01:24You can get a grasp on the controls, learn what you should be doing as a pirate, and
01:28hype yourself up in becoming a pirate legend.
01:39The UI
01:46For a few years, Sea of Thieves did not have a great UI.
01:50Things were fine at the title screen, but when it came to starting voyages, things could
01:54be a little confusing.
01:56You could spend quite a bit of time finding the faction you wanted to sail for, and then
02:00decide what kind of voyage you want to go on before going all the way back to your ship.
02:10Now you can just do all of this from your own ship's table, and it is so neatly organized
02:15that you can start a voyage within a second or two.
02:18Handy, right?
02:28New enemies and combat mechanics
02:38At first, the only enemies you could encounter across the world of Sea of Thieves were just
02:43skeleton pirates, and they don't really put up much of a fight.
02:46Sure, there were also dangerous wildlife creatures, but who's going to want to fight
02:50sharks all day?
02:52Or just slaughter snakes?
02:54That's boring.
02:55These days, there are so many other threats you'll face throughout your quest for gold.
03:07You can take on fortresses haunted by phantoms, dive deep into underwater shrines and face
03:12sirens, get ambushed by a megalodon while sailing, or find yourself at war with skeleton
03:17and phantom ships.
03:19On top of that, you can also obtain different types of cannonballs to inflict different
03:24effects on enemy ships, whether it's immobilizing them, getting the enemy crew drunk instantly,
03:29or even forcing them to fall asleep.
03:40New landmarks
03:49If you felt things were a bit barren back when Sea of Thieves first released, you weren't
03:54the only one.
03:55Luckily, several updates have integrated unique landmarks for you to discover.
04:05Some might be a little more tumultuous to navigate through, like the fiery region known
04:09as the Devil's Roar.
04:11But you may find a bit of respite upon discovering the glorious Sea Dog Tavern, where you can
04:16down some grog, party with your crew, and maybe do some trading.
04:19But you might even stumble upon underwater temples, sunken ships of other legendary pirates
04:25like yourself, and more.
04:33Fire
04:39At first, this does not sound like anything super interesting.
04:43Come on, isn't the element of fire supposed to be in almost every video game?
04:47Well, Rare didn't implement fire until sometime after launch, and it can be deadly if you
04:53don't put it out in an instant.
05:01Enemy pirates can set fire to your ship, which will spread quickly and deplete your own health
05:06over time.
05:07So be cautious when traveling through the Devil's Roar, because one blazing volcanic
05:12rock could jeopardize your voyage.
05:21Fishing
05:29Every video game these days needs fishing, and surprisingly, Sea of Thieves did not have
05:34fishing either at launch.
05:35The audacity.
05:36Thankfully, when the game hit its one year anniversary, we finally got it.
05:47You can now cast out a line during your travels and see what bites.
05:51Once you got something, you have two choices on what to do with your prize.
05:55You could cook it and put some health in your reserve for health regen, or you could travel
05:59to a seapost and see how much gold it can earn you from the Hunter's Call.
06:10More trading companies Yes, the Hunter's Call is a new trading
06:21company you can work with in Sea of Thieves, and there are more that demand different voyages
06:26to be done.
06:27Originally, it was just the Gold Hoarders, Order of Souls, and Merchant Alliance where
06:31you could trade in treasure, skulls, and cargo for rewards.
06:35But now, you have the Reaper's Bones, which task players with stealing treasure from other
06:40players and demolishing their ships.
06:49You can also set sail for the Bilge Rat if you want to take part in limited time voyages.
06:53Once you reach Pirate Legend status, you can take on voyages offered by the Athena's
06:58Fortune Company.
06:59What do they offer?
07:00We'll keep that a surprise for you when you become Pirate Legend.
07:11Chest Types Sea of Thieves has always had a good variety
07:19of treasure chests for you to nab.
07:21Every one of them will net you different amounts of gold, however, every once in a while you
07:25may stumble upon a truly special chest that will demand extra care and attention.
07:30For example, there is the Chest of Sorrow, which cries so much that it can flood and
07:36eventually sink your ship if left alone.
07:39Then there's the Chest of Rage, which will explode periodically unless doused with water.
07:49Our favorite chest, though, is the Chest of a Thousand Grogs, which will make you instantly
07:55drunk off grog until you set it down.
08:04The Kraken One of the most abysmal aspects of Sea of Thieves
08:13at launch was the Kraken, or rather, it was the lack of a Kraken.
08:18While the Colossal Squid did serve as a boss fight, swimming underwater would reveal that
08:22you were really just fighting a bunch of disembodied tentacles.
08:25Well, that has seen a drastic change.
08:34Sea of Thieves does feature a fully animated Kraken now lurking in the waters, but you
08:39can only fight it during a world event and see it by playing one of the Tall Tales.
08:44Wait, you don't know what a Tall Tale is?
08:52Well, in that case, Tall Tales!
09:01Remember earlier when we said that Sea of Thieves initially gave no sense of direction
09:05to the player?
09:07It went beyond learning how to play.
09:09Sea of Thieves used to drop you into the world and simply expect you to start doing voyages.
09:14However, in a massive update in April 2019, Rare began implementing Tall Tales as a means
09:20to fill the world with proper missions, missions with stories, unique fights, unique treasures,
09:26and more.
09:34This facet of the game has only expanded further thanks to big crossovers with Disney and Lucasfilm
09:40Games for Tall Tales based on Pirates of the Caribbean and the Monkey Island franchise.
09:52Now tell us, have you been playing Sea of Thieves or are you interested in jumping back
09:56in?
09:57What have you named your ship?
