00:01 - My name is Sherwin, and I'm from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia,
00:04 and I'm currently a fixed animator.
00:06 What I do here for Inside Out 2
00:08 is that I animate the characters,
00:10 whether it's the primary characters
00:11 or the tertiary characters, like the background characters.
00:14 At the same time, I also go in to fix
00:16 the shots of other animators that needs to be polished
00:21 or like small fixes, like, you know,
00:22 raising the eyebrow for some of the shots
00:24 in order to make the film process
00:27 or the production be much more efficient.
00:28 I graduated from the ONE Academy.
00:30 Then I applied for Pixar when I got here
00:33 into the States when I studied here.
00:35 So I applied for the internship a few times
00:37 because the best way to get a job here as an animator
00:39 is to apply to the internship.
00:41 And through the internship later,
00:43 there's a chance for you to become an animator in a studio.
00:46 Got rejected a few times,
00:48 and at one point I got accepted to the internship,
00:51 but I had to give up that spot because of COVID.
00:53 Unfortunately, it didn't happen.
00:55 But a few years later,
00:57 I applied again for the animated role.
00:59 And two months after that, I got rejected.
01:01 But after that, I got an interview,
01:03 and I got an offer, and here I am.
01:06 The biggest challenge that I had to face
01:08 was I think trying to step out more of my comfort zone.
01:11 Coming into the States or Pixar,
01:12 like I need to put myself more out there.
01:15 I had to be much more open to communicate,
01:17 try to be much more, you know, open to talking to people.
01:20 I think these are the things I've learned,
01:22 like communication and collaboration
01:23 are like the keys of what makes great projects
01:26 and great teams too, and great films.
01:28 I've been at Pixar for about a year and a half.
01:30 One of my core memories of working at Pixar
01:32 is sharing the same room with fellow animators.
01:36 To me, like my idols, like legends that I grew up with,
01:39 and also working closely with the director of the film,
01:42 it's such a dream come true.
01:43 It's very nerve-wracking to show like your work,
01:45 your shot to in front of the director and animators,
01:48 because everyone's just looking over your shoulder
01:50 and like what you're doing,
01:51 and you're just like by yourself,
01:52 just waiting to hear what happens.
01:54 But when they tell me the notes and all,
01:56 I pull out my pen and paper,
01:57 and then just like, you know, write down all the notes,
01:59 and then try to apply them
02:01 and put it into the next time I show them.
02:02 I wanted to try to say joy.
02:04 It's a bit of sadness there as well,
02:06 'cause I miss home.
02:06 Being far away from Malaysia,
02:08 it also like makes me sad
02:10 because I miss my family back home and my friends as well.
02:13 But then joy because, you know,
02:15 I'm also glad and happy that I'm here,
02:17 and I also have made my own friends and family here.
02:19 The three things, the three Fs, family, friends, food.
02:23 Food, the best in the world.
02:25 Nasi lemak, chili pan mi, yeah.
02:27 I think like when I talk,
02:29 I sometimes will talk in the Malaysian accent,
02:31 like sometimes I will say la,
02:32 sometimes I'll talk very fast, like right now.
02:34 That's some of the things
02:35 that I still do sometimes during my time here.
02:37 Just put in all the hard work.
02:39 I know you all have the passion,
02:41 but hard work is far greater than just passion.
02:43 And never give up.
02:45 I made my dream come true because I didn't give up.
02:47 Please do check out "Inside Out 2" in theaters in June 13.
02:50 Catch up all my hard work.
02:52 So much blood, sweat, and tears.
02:53 I'll put it in this film.
02:54 See you soon.
02:55 (dramatic music)
02:58 - What is that?
03:00 - It's a sarcasm.
03:01 - Sarcasm?
03:02 - Boy, are we so lucky we ran into you guys.
03:06 - Boy, are we so lucky we ran into you guys.
03:11 - Wow, those guys are jerks.
03:13 - Wow, those guys are jerks.
