00:00Adam, with that catch at third manager, you already began celebrating before you'd actually

00:05taken it?

00:06No, I don't know what happened there.

00:08I felt like I plucked it out of nowhere and it stuck and it did for a second and then

00:12I don't know, I think the sweat and the impact on the ground.

00:14Yeah, I felt that would have been a good one.

00:17I would have enjoyed that one.

00:19And what about your mindset today coming in with such a short boundary, bowling into the

00:23wind potentially there as well.

00:25How did you sort of play that out tactically?

00:28We'd actually summed it up yesterday, come out here, had a bowl, got a feel for the breeze.

00:33We always know there's a breeze to work with in the Caribbean, particularly here in Barbados.

00:39So got used to the conditions a bit yesterday and then the planning was to try and get it

00:44into the wicket.

00:45I mean, we probably would have bowled first today, I think if we won the toss, it's usually

00:51what you probably want to do on these wickets, get a read of the conditions, but I think

00:56the way that we started with the bat gave us a really good opportunity to look at what

01:00they did wrong with the ball and then what they did well in the middle.

01:04And just looking at what their spinners did, it was obvious there was a little bit of spin

01:09and bowling into the wicket also meant that there was a few balls skidding and that's

01:12my strength.

01:13So I kind of stuck to that today and then bowling to the shorter boundary later, just

01:18try to get it under the bat bowl for Yorkers as fast as I could and execute it well.

01:24Adam, what did you think England did wrong with the ball?

01:28I thought they bowled beautifully in the middle overs and then when you're bowling to Heddy

01:36and Dave, you know they're going to attack you and I think they're two of the best in

01:43the world at it and it is going to happen.

01:45I thought their off-pace stuff was really good and then that's what we kind of summed

01:50up from that was bowling into the wicket, slow ball, some sat up a bit and some skidded

01:55and speaking to the quicks before we went out, that was the game plan.

01:59You, Australia, obviously started off all pace, the beginning England went completely

02:03the other way and all spin.

02:05What did you make of that decision, what had you said at half time?

02:09We, I reckon we would have set out our 20 probably before the game and you work from

02:13there.

02:14They obviously thought the two left handers, off spin is a good match up but honestly defending

02:20the short boundary today with the wind as well was pretty easy to get it up in the air

02:25and get it for six for the batters and you saw with Heddy just attacking that over, put

02:29them under pressure and as I said earlier, Heddy is one of the best in the world at putting

02:33bowls under pressure early.

02:35Adam, you didn't have much cricket for a fair while leading into this tournament.

02:41Were you worried about that at all or did you see that as an advantage and how did you

02:46prepare?

02:47Did you get back down to Ballina to do some practice?

02:51Yeah, obviously made that decision a little while ago to pull out of the IPL and I thought

02:56it was the best thing for me moving forward into this World Cup.

02:59I was tired, I had some niggles and I'm a family man as well so trying to put them first

03:06over work sometimes is pretty important.

03:10I actually am a bit of a slow starter and I put in a little bit of extra work.

03:15My body feels great and just did that bit of extra work, maybe a bit more bowling than

03:20I usually would before a tournament like this and then the practice games and everything

03:26just feels nice at the moment.

03:29I think it's, I am a little bit of a slow starter but this feels like a rare occasion

03:33where I've started how I want to.

03:36And made some, I know comparisons with Shane Warne are always difficult and there's only

03:44one Shane Warne but in terms of what you've achieved in your career to this point with

03:51critical role in the 2021 World Cup, last year's World Cup and just seemingly stepping

03:57up in big matches a lot of the time, you know, did you find it hard as a young spinner

04:03to be coming out sort of in the shadow I suppose of Shane Warne's career?

04:08Never really thought of it that way to be honest, like I had to fight for my position

04:14in the team for a long time and then I was lucky enough to have captains that backed

04:20me, Finchie really backed me in and it's the same with Como and Marshy as well and under

04:25this coaching management, you know, my role is clear and I've done the work over time

04:30to build up that skill level but in terms of actually my role in the team I get backed

04:36to take wickets and try and win the game for us and I absolutely feel that with our leadership

04:42so as I said I reckon I did the work when I was young, I went through some rough patches

04:47for sure, I got dropped, I was in and out of the team a little bit and then I was probably

04:52in the team and not bowling that well but in the last few years that skill is definitely

04:57better than it was 8 years ago when I started and then as I said the leadership's just,

05:03it helps me feel at home.

05:06Did you spend a bit more time on the ground yesterday, kind of like summing up conditions

05:09with the coach?

05:10Yeah, it's a beautiful thing about my relationship with Ronnie is that he's invested and obviously

05:20Dan Vittori's not here as well so working with Ronnie is important, he's knowledgeable

05:24about spin bowling and then having that good bowl with him out here yesterday really helped

05:32against the breeze, getting the right handers to hit it out there and getting used to it

05:38was really important so yeah, a little bit of work yesterday definitely helped today.

05:42And just for a big game like this, your record in these big games is I know something you

05:46pride yourself on, what do you, how do you kind of sum it up, what do you do to put yourself

05:51in the mind frame to kind of do that?

05:56Don't know, I try and play my role, I try and really want to put myself in the position

06:03to change the game, you know we're under the pump early with the ball, they're going at

06:0910s and I looked at the scoreboard and went alright, it's time to stand up so I absolutely

06:15love those situations, like we play a lot of cricket where you don't feel like that

06:22and World Cups is exactly what you play for and to be in those positions, it gets me going.

06:29And just kind of on that, a similar kind of personality, Matt Wade looked pretty fired

06:33up for today's game, like A, how much does that kind of help all of you guys and B, what

06:39was kind of going on with his thing when he pulled out?

06:44Ah yeah, Wadey's a fiery guy, super competitive and something ticked him over a little bit

06:52today I think and that's what we love about Wadey, I think after the 6th or 7th overmark

06:57he came up to me and said let's not sit back here, let's go, like we can't wait for them

07:04to make a mistake because they're not going to and basically stay in the contest and that's

07:08the beautiful thing about Wadey, having him behind the stumps, so competitive, you can

07:12hear his voice and that makes a huge difference, if you've got a wicketkeeper who's quiet,

07:17who's body language is the opposite to someone like Wadey, you can feel that as well, love

07:24playing with Wadey, he's so competitive and yeah.

07:27And did you have a chance to speak to him about why he was so angry about that ball

07:31that wasn't called a dead ball on him?

07:34He, I believe that he just thought that, I actually don't know but he backed away and

07:40he played that shot and I think he felt like it was basically the same as letting it hit

07:45him in the leg, kind of a dead ball but yeah, it doesn't take much to fire Wadey up.

08:00Adam from watching from your vantage point during the batting innings, did you sense

08:05that the England players were getting frustrated out there, like as I suppose can happen in

08:10T20 matches but yeah, there just seemed to be a lot of gesturing amongst each other?

08:15Yeah, I think they were under the pump and it showed. It's so hard to bowl those two

08:24in the power play and if your bowlers aren't summing up the conditions quickly, I guess

08:28it can be frustrating and Hedy and Davey took advantage of it so, you know, we try not to

08:36be like that, we speak about it a bit, our leadership isn't like that, it's Cummo, Bison

08:43who are very calm and I think that helps us as bowlers as well so, yeah.
