The Pakistan Detective Training Institute was established in 1978. That same year, the Sindh government imposed a ban on it. The founding director, Najam Parvez Anwar, filed a constitutional petition against this ban in the Sindh High Court. The case continued for eight months before the court ruled in his favor. In 1979, the institute resumed operations, providing private investigation training in Pakistan and to individuals abroad.
Since then, many individuals have received training from the Pakistan Detective Training Institute.
